Ford Sees An Increase in Sales and Share Figures For May 2011

For May 2011, strong car sales for Ford have helped boost its UK leadership, with the manufacturing seeing increased sales and share compared to May 2010.

The Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus were the top and second bestsellers in May.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have released official figures, which show that total UK car sales in May 2011, compared to May 2010 are down to 150,431 - 1.7 per cent. Ford car sales rose from 21,300 in May 2010 to 21,581 for May 2011. Ford's total car sales was up from 13.9 per cent to 14.3 per cent.
Ford's May 2011 retail market share of 11.5 per cent, is up from 10.8 per cent in May 2010. For year to date, Ford share of retail car sales is 12.8 per cent, a 1 per cent raise over the same period of 2010.
Ford Fiesta sales increased to 8,135 from 6,619 for May, with the share up from 4.3 to 5.4 per cent. Whilst the Ford C-MAX saw sales more than double, with 734 in May 2010 to 1,548 in May 2011, with a share up to 1 per cent from 0.5 per cent.
Nigel Sharp, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "Ford delivered sales increases across the board in May with car sales and commercial vehicle sales both up compared with May 2010. Achieving this result with the car market down from last year is a tribute to both the strength of our dealer network and our best-ever vehicle range."
