Avoid Being Scammed Car Insurance Car insurance con artists spend their days thinking up schemes to defraud us of our money. Common scam involves the sale of �cheap� car insurance to unsuspecting consumers. It is intended to trick consumers into paying for car insurance coverage that doesn�t exist. Crooks often advertise the sale of cheap car insurance in community newspapers or flyers. The advertisements may even resemble those of a legitimate insurance company . Typically, these advertisements claim they can find you car insurance coverage at rates lower than what you have been paying in the past.
Some advertisements do not identify the name of the insurance company. Where a name is provided, it is probably phoney. An individual pretending to be a licensed car insurance broker offers to arrange car insurance coverage at a rate much lower than what you�re currently paying. The individual charges you a fee for this service. After getting information about your driving history, the individual impersonates you when calling a licensed insurance company for an car insurance quote.
The insurance company requires the customers to pay a certain insurance fees for a specified period of time. The mode of payment and the nature of compensation depend upon the insurance policy a person buys. The individual lies to the car insurance company about your personal information or driving history to get a lower rate. You pay your premium directly to the insurance company and receive a proof of insurance coverage.
* A licensed car insurance agent or broker does not charge you fees � he or she receives payment from the insurance company.
* Your car insurance coverage is invalid because the information provided to the insurance company is false.
An advertisement promises car insurance coverage at rates much lower than what you�re currently paying. When you call the phone number in the advertisement, you are provided with a quote. There are many insurance companies and several packages being offered to the customers. Insurance marketing is very vital for the success of insurance companies and to attract customers to the insurance policies. When you accept the quote, you are asked to send a partial or full payment for coverage through a transfer or money wiring service or cash. * Your car insurance coverage was never arranged.
* The individual you contacted is not a licensed insurance agent or broker.
Some consumers discover they do not have valid car insurance when they are stopped by the police and charged for driving without insurance, or when they become involved in an car accident.
Remember, driving without valid car insurance is illegal.
* Do not pay a referral fee � licensed brokers do not charge you fees.
* Do not pay your car insurance premium with cash through a wire service.
* You must complete an application form when applying for insurance called the Application for car Insurance � Owner�s Form (OAF1).
* If you suspect fraud in the purchase of car insurance, contact the police.
* Make sure the individual you are with is legally allowed to sell car insurance.
* Check that the car insurance company is licensed.
