Video: BMW 1 Series M prototype makes an appearance at the 'Ring
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Videos, BMW  BMW 1 Series M prototype on the 'Ring - Click above to watch the video after the break The BMW 1 Series M is getting ever closer to production, and what appears to be a real production prototype has made its first appearance at the "Green Hell." The previously seen tacked-on rear fender flares of the previous mules have been discarded in favor of enhanced sheet metal. All of the metal from the side character line is covered in the standard-issue BMW swirly prototype wrap. Based on the new nose, this car has some serious air ingestion requirements as evidenced by the large openings below the bumper. Within the wheels, the BMW engineers have wasted none of the available space, filling the fronts with as much brake hardware as could be squeezed in with only slightly less going into the back corners. If the production car sounds like what we hear in the video after the jump, driving this 1 M/M1/135is/whatever will be a glorious audio experience. Tip of the hat to Luis! Beijing 2010: 2011 BMW 535Li ready for chauffeur duty

BMW has a stretched version of the all-new 2011 5 Series that'll be built and sold exclusively in China. The limo-like Fiver is a full 5.5 inches longer than the standard 5 Series sedan, all of which accounts for additional rear legroom. New rear seat amenities like an entertainment system, adjustable sunblinds and a folding table are on hand, as well. Spec-wise, the long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series isn't much different than the models sold in other markets. Three six-cylinder engines are available and eight-speed automatic transmissions are standard across the board. Video: BMW Concept Gran Coup?© unveiled live in Beijing to strange music

To be more precise, they revealed the car in the Chinese city, but not at the show itself. At the time, we scoured the BMW stand and the only new vehicle we found there was the 535Li extended-wheelbase, with no sign of the new concept. It turns out that BMW held a private reception the night before the media day at the show, and there the concept stayed. In a 'better late than never' move, one of the attendees has posted a video of the reveal, and we're sharing that with you now. Designer Adrian van Hooydonk and Chairman Dr. Norbert Reithofer opened the doors on the Gran Coupé in an extended (albeit not particularly awe inspiring) manner, but the concept still looks pretty great regardless, and it also looks very nearly production-ready. Hopefully we'll get a chance to check out the Gran Coupé live somewhere soon, but in the meantime, check out the video after the jump. Jeremy Clarkson on BMW's X1: It isn't just bad, it's 'rubbish'

The reasons were many and varied, but they can basically be lumped into one of two camps. First up is the aesthetics camp. Cries of "ugly" cropped up in the comments faster than they would have in a Susan Boyle Playmate layout. While BMW's particular brand of crossover design has never been anything but controversial, we think the X1 looks pretty much okay. But the second, and maybe more vocal camp, can best be summed up as, "Why?" As in why would BMW bother? According to Top Gear ace Jeremy Clarkson, they shouldn't have. No stranger to stinging reviews, even of BMW products (here's Jezza calling the 335 a "dog turd"), Jeremy really seems to particularly dislike the new X1. He hates the ride, the interior, the name (sDrive in particular), the diesel motor and the way it drives. Is there anything he likes about the small crossover? In a word, no.
