Grand Exit: Mercedes-Benz Introduces GL-Class Grand Edition In Europe

Mercedes-Benz uses its Grand Edition badge to celebrate the end of a model’s lifecycle with unbridled luxury. Predictably, the new GL-Class Grand Edition is one of the most opulent Mercedes-Benz SUVs this side of a Gelandewagen.


Available only in Europe, the Grand Edition packageadds a host of cosmetic touches both outside and in. Regardless of the engine selection, Grand Edition models receive the GL550’s front fascia with LED running lights (standard on all GLs here in North America, but relegated as standard to the 550 in Europe), special piano black grille slats, blacked-out headlamp surrounds, unique metallic exterior colors, and bespoke grey 10-spoke aluminum wheels. Inside, GL Grand Editions boast exclusive two-tone leather seating (in your choice of black and porcelain, or black and maroon) with contrast stitching and piping. Armrests, door panels, and the dashboard are wrapped in matching double-stitched leather, while matte ash wood trim adorns the dash, doors, and steering wheel.



Depending on the engine choice, the Grand Edition package adds ranges from €5117 ($7180) to €3094 ($4342) on the price of the GL-Class. Two diesel powerplants are available: the GL350 CDI Grand Edition costing €80,206 ($112,545) and the GL350 BlueTec Grand Edition for €81,395 ($114,224). Prefer gasoline? Opt for either the GL450 Grand Edition for €91,868 ($128,921) with its 4.6-liter V-8, or go for the range-topping GL500 (aka GL550 in the U.S.) Grand Edition (€99,127/ $139,108), which packs a 5.5-liter, 388-hp V-8.
