Report: Mercedes-Benz May Craft Super-CLS To Counter Bentley Continental

Mercedes-Benz is considering yet another model in one of few categories it has missed — a Bentley Continental GT rival, according to British magazine Autocar. The new model could be a four-door coupe and slot well above the CLS, perhaps alongside the CL two-door coupe. Most likely the new car would feature AMG engine and chassis tuning to help bolster its premium image and justify a higher price


Autocar says the new dramatically-styled high-performance four-door coupe would sit next to the CL two-door coupe in the model range. Mercedes is trying to take a share of the Russian and the Middle Eastern markets, where ultra-expensive and high-performance vehicles are popular, away from Bentley and the upcoming Porsche Panamera GT.

The new car may share engineering resources with Maybach due to the interest shown in the Xenatec 62S Coupe (pictured) shown at auto shows. Looks like Mercedes is trying to fill the gap between the S-Class and the Maybach 57 where the Bentley Continental GT resides.
