Chrysler Group products have been seriously improving and diversifying lately, the main result of which is a significantly higher level of interior quality. The all-new 200 represents an obvious upgrade over the obsolete Sebring while the Grand Cherokee impresses many with its fresh new design, but leftovers such as the Dodge Caliber remind us that the automaker still has ways to go.
Fortunately, the days of the chunky compact as we know it are numbered. Reports indicate that its successor will be unveiled at the next NAIAS in Detroit. Expect an outstanding exterior design, a much more refined cabin as well as a fuel-efficient powertrain that should burn as little as 5.88 litres of gas per 100 kilometres.
Once the autoshow tour is over, the car will likely hit the market in 2012 for the 2013 model year. A new name might be in the plans to break ties with the past (ala 200) and we're anxious to see if it will manage to rival the hot new Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze and Honda Civic.
