Lumma Design increases its carbon footprint with BMW 7 Series package

But if you're looking for something a little more aggressive, Lumma Design has an answer for you: A lot of carbon fiber ought to do the trick. Much as it has done for just about everything else made in the Fatherland, the German tuner has released a raft of carbon bits for the flagship Bimmer. Included in the package are a new grille, door handles, door mirror housings, front bumper with integrated LEDs, a quad-tip exhaust and massive 22-inch wheels riding on ultra low-profile rubber. Lumma being more into design than engine tuning, the mechanical bits of the car remain untouched, but you can get a closer look in the gallery below. Paris Preview: BMW unwraps 6 Series Coupe Concept
Filed under: Concept Cars, Coupe, Paris Motor Show, BMW  BMW 6 Series Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery Like so many "concepts" from BMW, the 6 Series Coupe bound for the Paris Motor Show is a concept in name alone. What you're looking at is BMW's next GT, and even a cursory glance proves that the Bangleization of BMW is officially over. Set to be based on the 5 series' underpinnings and taking several cues from the Grand Coupe concept shown in Beijing, the next BMW 6 Series takes the brand's new upright grille, frames it with a set of full LED headlamps and than caps things off with a more contoured rump. We're not going to pass judgement on the design until we see it in person, but like the last 6er, this new GT appears to be a love it or loathe it affair.  On the contrary, the interior is an airy, organic environment, complete with an asymmetrical center console tilted towards the driver, a new navigation display and a host of aluminum and leather accents that are several steps beyond what's currently on offer from BMW. We're particularly digging the redesigned steering wheel and the waterfall of material that connects the dash to the transmission tunnel.BMW isn't giving up specifics on dimensions or engines - this is a "concept" after all - but expect the 2012 BMW 6 Series to be slightly lower and marginally wider than the current model. Power will be supplied by BMW's current array of naturally aspirated and turbocharged inline sixes, with the next M6 outputting over 550 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. The standard 6 should be in showroom early next year, with the M6 to arriving in late 2012 and the soft-top due out in late 2011. BMW announces trial markets for ActiveE electric car effort
 BMW ActiveE concept - Click above for high-res image gallery The evolution of BMW's electric vehicle program, Project i, goes sort of like this: from Mini E concept to leasing that car to happy customers to the ActiveE concept to field tests of the larger sedan next year and then on to the Megacity EV, which is scheduled for 2013. Those last two steps have yet to happen, but today we learn a bit more about how and where the ActiveE, a modified 1 Series Coupe, will prowl the streets. BMW has announced that the following U.S. cities and areas will get the ActiveE:
So that makes California and the East Coast the lucky ones. We've heard a few hundred ActiveEs would be tested around the U.S., but BMW hasn't provided any more details on the number of vehicles coming to each location. The field trial starts next summer, so we don't have that much longer to wait. What can drivers expect from the ActiveE? BMW says that "realistic simulations" show the all-electric car can go from 0-60 in approximately 8.5 seconds and the car has a top speed of around 90 miles per hour (electronically limited). Range is estimated at 100 miles. Unlike the Mini E , the ActiveE can seat four and carry about seven cubic-feet of stuff. Report: Creed to head BMW NA marketing after Pitney passing
Filed under: Hirings/Firings/Layoffs, BMW  BMW's North American Vice President of Aftersales, Dan Creed, has been chosen to replace former marketing VP Jack Pitney, who passed away last month as the result of a tragic accident on his farm. Creed will pick up the reins of marketing as well as product planning and strategy for The Roundel in North America.Creed has been with BMW since 1996, when he joined the automaker's Canadian arm. His past assignments for the company have included Canada's National Sales Manager and head of the Southern Region of BMWNA. In his role as the President of Aftersales, Creed presided over parts, service, accessories and lifestyle schwag for both Bimmer and Mini. BMW's official press release is after the jump. BMW introducing iPad docks for back seats, iPhone 4 integration

BMW has turned up the level of smart phone integration in its vehicles in a big way. The company will be showing off its new ConnectedDrive system at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The swank tech not only boasts Bluetooth wizardry and a text-to-speech function that will allow drivers to access text messages, memos, emails and the like from their Blackberry, it will also work with Apple iOS4. That means that the system clicks with the latest iPhone. But wait, there's more. The German manufacturer is also introducing something it calls iPod Out that's designed to make the most of using Apple music players in the vehicle. There's even a handy docking system for the iPad in the back seats. What's more, BMW will offer a mobile hotspot system with ConnectedDrive so that passengers can surf the web without burning up their data plans. Welcome to the brave new world.
