Video: 2011 Nissan Leaf assembly process detailed

In that video, General Motors took us inside its Detroit-Hamtramck plant to watch its plug-in hybrid undergo a transformation from a bodyshell to a ready-to-roll vehicle. In the all-too-brief clip, GM attempted to capture the complex steps of assembling the Chevy Volt but, as many of our commenters pointed out, failed to provide a detailed look at the intricate technologies that differentiate the Volt from more conventional vehicles. In an attempt to be as fair as possible, it's only fitting that we also showcase the assembly of the 2011 Nissan Leaf. This video, shot inside Nissan's plant in Oppama, Japan, captures the production of the Leaf in painstaking detail. Hit the jump to watch the Nissan Leaf as it comes together right before your eyes. Report: Toyota trimming global production goals for 2011
Filed under: Japan, Plants/Manufacturing, Toyota  According to Reuters, Toyota has scaled back its production forecasts for 2011. Thanks to slowly improving sales in the U.S., the automaker has trimmed its plans for next year from eight million vehicles to 7.8 million - a drop of 200,000 units. If that's the case, 2011 will mark the third straight year that the Japanese Automaker has fallen short of the eight million unit mark, excluding Daihatsu and Hino Motors. The report came courtesy of a Japanese newspaper, which cited an unnamed source for the information. Toyota does not publish its production plans.Reuters says that in the first 10 months of 2010, the company managed to match 2009 production numbers with 6.37 million vehicles. While the final total for this year is expected to be a good deal higher, there's little chance of the company pre auto-industry crash figures this year or next. With government incentives for fuel-efficient vehicles, specifically hybrids, on their way out the door, Reuters reports that sales for the big three Japanese automakers have fallen considerably. PSA: Toyota Prius has been Japan's top-selling car for 18 straight months
Filed under: Car Buying, Hybrid, Japan, Hatchback, Toyota  2010 Toyota Prius - Click above for high-res image gallery The Toyota Prius has been the top-selling vehicle in its home market of Japan since its redesign in 2009 for the 2010 model year, due partly to a series of incentives created by the Japanese government to promote fuel efficient vehicles - more specifically, hybrids. Those incentives ended in September, leading many to wonder if Toyota's hybrid hatchback could maintain its stranglehold atop the sales board. Apparently, the answer is yes. According to data provided by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Mini Vehicles Association, Toyota managed to sell 21,400 Prius hybrids in November, more than enough to earn the fuel-sipper the top sales spot over the second-place Honda Fit (16,677 units). It seems that the end of hybrid vehicle subsidies did take something of a toll on Prius sales, however. Though still on top, sales of Toyota's hybrid hatchback were down by just over 20 percent when compared to the same period one year ago, when the Japanese government's incentives were in full effect. Still, Toyota's green jellybean has enjoyed 18 months at the top and still has quite a few carlengths on the Fit, and that's nothing to be sneezed at. Subaru teases JDM-only Impreza WRX STI tS with carbon fiber roof

So it was hard to miss this teaser image for an upcoming version of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI tS sporting a carbon fiber roof. When we click to the English-language portion of the site the image and information disappears, so we don't know what else to make of this STI tS and its lighter chapeau. For the non-Subaru aficionados reading along, tS stands for "Tuned by STI" and we last saw the crew at Subaru Tecnica International apply wrenches to the Legacy. The resulting Legacy B4 2.5GT tS had us drooling and we expect the WRX STI tS to have a similar affect on our salivary glands.
