BMW Vision EfficientDynamics spotted in Abu Dhabi - is it closer to production? [w/video]
Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupe, Hybrid, Performance, BMW, Middle East, Diesel  BMW EfficientDynamics supercar in Abu Dhabi - click above to watch video after the jump During a recent trip to Abu Dhabi, Teamspeed forum member Captain Stradale caught a glimpse of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics strutting its stuff for an on-track photo shoot. What makes us most curious, though, is the fact that this gray version of the VED is marginally different-looking than the white concept BMW has paraded around the auto show circuit over the past year (along with the white with blue swirly camo prototype they've shown). The Vision EfficientDynamics, which is rumored to come into production under the name 'i8', is expected to be powered by a 328-horsepower three-cylinder diesel-hybrid powertrain. The ultra-lightweight production car is tipped to run from 0-100 in just 4.8 seconds, and during normal driving, the new efficient supercar is estimated to achieve 62.5 miles per gallon. When we'll see the production version of the VED is still unclear, though sources have reported that it will show up in 2013, priced from around $200,000. We can't verify if the gray car in these Teamspeed shots is anything closer to production, but seeing this thing out on the track makes us all the more eager to experience BMW's efficient hotness for ourselves. Rumormill: BMW working on range of front-wheel-drive concepts
Filed under: Europe, Crossover, Hatchback, BMW, Rumormill  When BMW began making noise about bringing front-wheel drive to the table, purists, enthusiasts and fans of the brand immediately busted out the pitchforks and torches. Visions of front-wheel drive 3 Series and 1 Series models were almost enough to induce frenzy (not that a huge number of owners would know the difference...), but if the latest word from BMW Blog is to be believed, the company's front-wheel drive efforts will be contained to a handful of all-new models. The news comes courtesy of a BMW insider posting on German Car Forum. Supposedly, the main impetus behind delving into a FWD platform isn't to increase the company's average fuel economy as some have guessed. Instead, BMW is looking to make the Mini brand more profitable by sharing platforms with other models under the Roundel. Those include a new compact BMW roughly the size of a Cooper, as well as an MPV that the insider calls a Compact Gran Sport Tourer. Additionally, there may be room for a crossover-sized front-wheel drive beast as well. Interestingly enough, the report says that the new BMW compact will have proportions similar to those of the Honda CR-Z. At this point, it's difficult to say whether or not the source from German Car Forum has their facts straight or not, but so far, this is the most detailed glimpse we've gotten into what BMW is up to with its FWD program. Now the company has turned its attention to Tiffany Coates and her BMW R80GS. The duo have traversed the globe together, ranging over five continents and covering untold miles in the process. For Coates, no country or region is off limits, and she's spent time everywhere from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Alaska and Australia. Her travel is impressive, without a doubt, though we're more taken with the perspective that her gallivanting has given her. We can think of a few politicians that could use some time in the saddle of an R80GS. 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe priced from $47,010, 650i Convertible from $91,375

But while we knew most everything about these powerful new Bavarian two-doors, we were missing one thing - the make-it or break-it factor for many potential buyers: pricing.  So with the veils lifted on both these models, BMW North America has announced official pricing for each. The compact, six-cylinder 1 Series M Coupe will start at $47,010, while its much larger eight-cylinder, drop-top counterpart, the 650i Convertible, starts out at nearly double that: $91,375. Of course, options on either will take you far beyond their listed MSRPs, but the prices quoted include destination and handling charges. Detroit 2011: 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe revs its beating heart
Filed under: Detroit Auto Show, Coupe, Performance, BMW  2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe - Click above for high-res image gallery BMW's latest introduction to the U.S. market bowed today at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, and it's a machine that's meant to light the true enthusiast's heart aflutter: the 2012 1 Series M Coupe. We must say, it looks rather striking in the metallic orange hue you see in our live photo gallery below. Even more importantly, the 340 horsepower put out by its 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine is said to "capture the soul of the original M3." Or so they say... BMW claims this new sportster was inspired by the 1988 M3, and the German automaker's intention is reportedly to "illustrate its ability to build race car performance into a small car, capable of everyday use." Expect to see the new 1 Series M Coupe hit dealership lots in the spring of 2011 for $47,010, in limited quantities according to BMW.
