BMW to build limited edition Z4 sDrive35is Mille Miglia
Filed under: Motorsports, Classics, Convertible, Performance, BMW, Luxury, Racing  2010 BMW Z4 sDrive35is Mille Miglia Limited Edition - Click above for high-res image gallery In celebration of the 70th anniversary of its historic victory in the famed Mille Miglia automobile race in Brescia, when the classic BMW 328 not only finished in first place but also in third, fifth and sixth places, thereby ensuring overall team victory as well, the German automaker has announced that it will build just 99 examples of the limited edition Z4 sDrive35is Mille Miglia. Setting this car apart from other Z4s, each Mille Miglia edition will be finished in a coat of matte Polaris Metallic with a blacked-out front grill, an M aero kit and 19-inch wheels finished in Dark Chrome. Inside, the seats and steering wheel will get a dash of red stitching. And of course, the limited edition model will also get unique badging inside and out. Power will come from the standard 340-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six, mated up to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Spy Shots: Minor facelift for 2011 Mini Cooper and Clubman spotted
Filed under: Spy Photos, Paris Motor Show, Hatchback, BMW, Mini  2011 Mini Cooper and Clubman spy shots - Click above for high-res image gallery  The next-generation Mini Cooper isn't slated to arrive until 2012, but judging by this latest set of spy shots, it looks like parent company BMW is working on a very, very minor facelift for the 2011 model year Cooper and Clubman hatches. The slight tweaks include things like a new front bumper with revised air intakes (similar to those on the Countryman crossover), a revised rear bumper and restyled taillights with LEDs. Our spies also indicate that some of these prototypes were sporting some interior cladding, meaning that a slightly revised dash and instrument cluster could be on tap for 2011. The Mini's interior is growing a bit long in the tooth, especially the oversized speedometer - a kitschy feature that is rapidly losing its cuteness. It isn't much, but these slight upgrades should be plenty in order to keep the Minis fresh until an all-new model launches. And unless you're a bona fide hoarder, most people excuse this clutter as a means to be well-prepared for any situation that may arise out on the road. Mini understands, and in fact, is now encouraging owners to take time to stop and smell the roses (or take a nap) while traveling. The automaker's Getaway package for the 2011 Countryman micro-crossover includes a host of kit designed to inspire Selling for €306 (the apparent retail value of roadside spontaneity), Mini's Getaway package includes two folding seats that can be converted into a table (extra chairs can be purchased if you find that larger gatherings are in your future). In addition to that, you'll get what Mini calls a "five-in-one cover," which can be used as a poncho, sleeping bag, picnic blanket or bed cover. Talk about one-size-fits-all. From there, Mini throws in a set of boots, a parka and a (limited-edition!) Mini t-shirt. You know, just in case. BREAKING: BMW X3 prototype reportedly causes bomb scare outside NY museum

Just a week after a failed car bomb attempt in Times Square, Manhattan is understandably still a bit jittery. An apparent error in judgement by Martin Birkmann, head of product planning for BMW North America, reportedly triggered a bomb scare and the resulting evacuation of several blocks along Central Park West near the American Museum of Natural History this afternoon. Birkmann was out evaluating a prototype 2011 BMW X3 covered in camouflage when he stopped to enjoy a bit of fresh air in the park. He inadvertently left the engine running and a woman walking her dog rightly thought the vehicle looked suspicious - particularly understandable given that New Yorkers are not as used to seeing such prototypes out and about as much as, say, your average Detroiter. Police responded to investigate, and after clearing the area of bystanders, found no reason for alarm. Everyone was safe, although the back window of the X3 prototype was apparently shattered in the process. No doubt Birkmann will think twice about where he parks such vehicles in the future. Elements from the rakish four-door are will first appear on the 6 Series coupe and convertible, and the Gran Coupé's cues are expected to "turn up all over the BMW range in the next few years." BMW Blog has a couple of looks behind the creation of the Gran Coupé, which looks to have been designed by Nader Faghihzadeh, the man behind the new 7 Series interior. You can have a look at some of the Making Of in the gallery of photos below, or follow the link for more while we wait for it to appear at the Paris Motor Show this fall. But BMW, even if you don't make it, can we at least talk about Transporter 4 or a new round of BMW Films with this?
