BMW M5 production comes to an end [w/video]

BMW dropped us a line to say that the V10-powered M5 supersedan is no more. Production has officially ended on the E60 version of one the world's best sports sedan after five years and 20,548 units. That's even greater than the production numbers of its predecessor, the V8-powered E39 models, even though those versions had an additional year of production. When it was first released in 2005 as a 2006 model, the E60 was a fairly outrageous automotive offering, with an exotic 5.0-liter V10 and 507 horsepower on tap. This generation of M5 introduced the world to a whole new set of superlatives as automotive journalists reached for their Roget's to find a novel way to describe the acceleration, braking and handling. And now that the E60 is no more. But BMW wants us to rejoice rather than lament the passing of the E60, for the new F10 BMW M5 is just around der Karussell. We've been seeing spy shots of the 2011 BMW M5 seemingly forever, and with its new twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 rumored to be producing 560 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque, performance should even be a step above the E60. That doesn't mean we won't miss the E60, however. The good news is that they should be getting even more affordable on the used car market. Spy Shots: BMW 6 Series Cabriolet takes its top off
Filed under: Spy Photos, Convertible, BMW, Luxury  The BMW 6 Series Cabriolet is in the latter stages of pre-reveal testing, but has only now been caught in spy shots with its top down. The car's cloth-top lines are the same as on the current generation, slightly arched on top and running down into buttresses on either side of the vertical rear window that also serves as a wind deflector. Even on the slightly rounder 2010 6 Series Cab, putting the top down makes the car seem a little longer. But with the streamlined body of the next iteration giving the appearance of more length in general, to our eyes this new car is fills our field of vision like the S.S. Tirpitz with its top stowed. Even so, 7 Series engines should give it plenty of motivation. We look forward to checking it out at the Paris Motor Show in 90 days, if it fits... 2011 Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo - Full details and images
Filed under: Aftermarket, Sedan, Performance, BMW, Luxury  2011 Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo - Click above for high-res image gallery Alpina has finally graced the world with a handful of images and all of the gritty details about the all-new 2011 B5 Bi-Turbo after its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company has managed to bless the BMW 5 Series with a mythic 507 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. How, you ask? The B5 makes use of the same twin-turbo, all aluminum V8 found in the car's big brother, the B7. That means that there's a full 4.4-liters of displacement sucking down 1 bar of pressure for the two turbos under the hood. Sounds like a party. The eight-pot is bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission that Alpina co-developed with the gear-swapping gurus at ZF. If the mood strikes you, the driver can click through the gears via buttons mounted on the back side of the steering wheel, though given the massive amount of work Alpina put into the transmission, odds are you're better off letting the car do the work for you. There's also a completely reworked suspension on board that includes slightly shorter springs and unique control arms that help eek a little more camber out of the front wheels. Combined with the electronically adjustable suspension, the company claims to provide an altogether sharper driving experience. Video: BMW teases 1 Series M Coupe

BMW has released the first teaser video of its upcoming 1 Series M Coupe and "excited" doesn't begin to describe how we're feeling. The video after the jump is devoid of hard details, but it confirms what we've seen in countless spy shots and the rumors that have made the rounds for nearly a year. Early reports indicate that the turbocharged inline-six in the standard 135i will be upgraded to around 350 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The M Coupe's newfound grunt will be channeled through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and to the rear wheels via a torque-vectoring M rear differential, resulting in a 0-60 time of around 4.3 to 4.5 seconds. Naturally, firmer springs, dampers and bushings are part of the package, along with lightweight 18-inch wheels and a full body kit consisting of a new fascia, flared wheel arches, larger side sills, rear diffuser and a small spoiler. Being an M-fettled product, expect a quad-tipped exhaust to reside out back and - judging by previous spy shots and the official video - BMW's trademark fender vents. Here's hoping that unjust regionalism doesn't extend to sales when the 1 Series M Coupe hit dealers in the second quarter of 2011. BMW delivers pair of JDM specials - Mini Savile Row and X6 Performance Unlimited

The black-as-deep-space hatch with the black roof is accented by polished chrome 17-inch wheels, gas cap, mirrors and trim outside and in. Privacy glass, bi-xenon headlights, white turn signal lamps and an anthracite headliner have been thrown into the mix as well. There will be 100 made, all with the 1.6-liter four-cylinder and automatic transmissions, costing ¥3,100,000 ($35,028 U.S.). That's a premium of about ¥400,000 ($4,519 U.S.) over the standard Mini. There will be just 20 examples built of the even more limited edition BMW X6 Performance Unlimited, also for the Japanese market only. Inspired by BMW motorsports, the crossover gets a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder with hybrid technology running through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The body receives silver pearl paint, a BMW Performance aero package, 21-inch alloys and a blacked-out grille, the interior gets Dakota leather and brushed aluminum pedals.
