Carbon E7 Police Car Getting a BMW Diesel Engine – Criminals Piss Pants
See that bad-ass looking car up there? That’s the Carbon E7 – a specialty-made police cruiser from Carbon Motors, an Indiana-based company making only police cars. So, chances are they’ll be really good at it. Remember its face – it might be pulling you over in the near future
Earlier today, BMW signed an agreement to provide Carbon Motors with more than 240,000 inline-six cylinder diesel powerplants, complete with cooling and exhaust gas systems and even the transmission. BMW says that the engines will “help reduce the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of more than 240,000 US law enforcement vehicles by up to 40% over the coming years.” While neither company gave details on engine specs, I’m betting on a version of BMW’s 3.0-liter, 265 hp & 425 lb-ft twin-turbo inline-six diesel from the 335d sedan and X5 xDrive35d
Poor Ford, who’s had a huge market share on cop cars over the last God-knows how many years, finally has a competitor in the ranks, and a really good one at that. Same with Chevy, who’s now making a 2011 Caprice patrol car. In response, the upcoming 2011 Ford Police Interceptor is purpose-built specifically for police cars, too. This is great for cops, finally getting a car made just for them instead of modifying normal road-going Impalas and Crown Vics for police use. Great for us, too. Now our hearts won’t skip a collective beat every time we see a damn white Chevy Impala in our rear-views that turns out to be driven by an old lady
