![]() The BMW 328 Hommage unveiled this weekend is definitely stunning and polarizing, but it isn’t BMW’s first concept to have been inspired by the original 328 racecar. Some of you diehard 328 fans might recall BMW’s previous concept inspired from the original racecar. In 2006 the automaker unveiled the BMW Concept Coupé Mille Miglia, which was strictly produced as a design study and a tribute to the 328 and its engineers. Compared to the 328 Hommage, the Concept Coupé shares a more unmistakable resemblance the original 328. For example, both vehicles are styled with a more vertical front end and share a long dual kidney grill and pronounced round headlights. The 328 Hommage, on the other hand, has a shorter and wider stance with headlights that mimic racing tape. ![]() The profile of Concept Coupé and the original 328 are also very similar, as both vehicles sport rounded fenders and a pointed tail end. The most unique feature on the Concept Coupé is the hinged-hard top roof that rises upward. The hinged roof eliminates the need for traditional doors, which saves weight and increases body rigidity. And like the 328 Hommage, designers of the Concept Coupé also focused on lightweight construction and makes heavy use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The Coupé is painted a traditional silver color for a more retro look. So which interpretation of the 328 do you prefer? The modern 328 Hommage or the retro Concept Coupé Mille 2006? ![]() ![]() |
