Skoda VERSUS Dacia: low-cost Felicia sedan to compete with Logan
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
The Dacia Logan will have a new low-cost sedan competitor in its market soon, in the form of the new Skoda Felicia. It will replace the current
Skoda Octavia Tour and will be based on the Roomster platform.
The Skoda Felicia will be 450 cm long with a wheelbase of 262 cm. The engine range will have the 1.4 with 80hp and 1.6 with 102 hp petrol engines. The diesel options will be the 1.6 TDI in both 90 and 105 hp.
Other news from Skoda includes the introduction of Start&Stop technology across the range and a new citycar based on the Volkswagen Up! model that is expected to debut in 2012. The next generation
Skoda Octavia will appear in 2013, while there will also be a
seven-seater version of the Yeti.
Other models that were originally touted for production, like the Skoda Fabia cabriolet and a new Touran-based MPV probably won’t be produced to avoid overlapping parent company’s Volkswagen range.
Skoda's Vento, the Felicia coming soon
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
The Polo’s Czech cousin, the
Fabia has been left out of the pie which the brand is keen to correct. The Polo and
Fabia are based on common underpinnings as is the Vento which brings us to the space vacated by the Octavia. Skoda are keen to re-enter that space with the sedan version of the
Fabia which could be named Felicia. Skoda marketed the
Fabia as India’s first super hatch with grand Indi-flavoured advertisements. The Czech brand will be keen to build up on the reputation of the
Fabia brand with the sedan. The
Fabia is not expected to turn heads but will definitely come with
loads of practicality and an extended wheelbase to keep rear seat passengers happy.
Zigwheels have come up with a rendering of the
Fabia with a boot. The sedan will come with powerful engines and the 1.6L units from the Vento look like a straight lift but Skoda might not be able to get their
hands on that engine so soon. So, a powerful 1.4 petrol and a boosted version of the 1.4 diesel is expected in the
Fabia sedan. It will be squarely aimed at the Vento and the lot and equipped with a robust diesel engine, the job is half
complete. Skoda should make sure the price and after sales are on dot. We expect an end
2011 launch for the Fabia sedan.

Artist Impressions: 2014 Skoda Fabia and Laura
Auto Bild Germany has hired the services of automotive artist Larson to render the probable designs of the 2014 Skoda Fabia hatchback and the 2014 Skoda Laura (Octavia for the international market). While both the cars look similar in form to their corresponding current generation avatars, Larson has given both the cars an aggressive fascia. These artist impressions incorporate the new design language that Skoda established with the new Superb.

The Fabia’s current design debuted in 2007 (2008 for India) and underwent a mid-life facelift last year (coming to India later this year). So expect the all new Fabia, with hopefully the aggressive design that you see in the renders, by late 2012 / early 2013. The Laura too will get a breath of new design as shown in the impressions and should be ready for public unveiling by 2012. In the meantime, India will get the upcoming Skoda Felicia, the Yeti, the facelift Fabia and an all new small car based on the ‘Joyster’ concept.
