![]() ![]() ![]() By Drew Johnson Monday, May 3rd, 2010 @ 2:00 p.m. After a few month hiatus, our spy photographers have once again caught up with the CL-replacing S-Class Coupe. The big two-door was spotted with virtually no camouflage, giving us our best look to date. The CL’s name change falls in line with Mercedes’ new naming scheme, which also included the E-Class Coupe. New features will include LED daytime headlights and, possibly, LED taillamps as well. A newly designed front bumper is also hinted in these photos, and the AMG versions will sport a more aggressive look. Upfront, the updated grille doesn’t look as quite slanted as the current CL grille, and will now will have fewer chrome bars across it, giving more prominence to the Mercedes badge sitting in the middle. Overall, the debut of the S-Class nomenclature is really nothing more than a standard mid-cycle refresh combined with a name change – expect the same basic car currently available under the CL-Class naming structure. Underhood, we expect the CL’s engine offerings to largely remain unchanged, starting with a 5.5-liter 382 hp V8, and topped with a 604 horsepower 6.0-liter V12 with the S-Class 65 AMG. The “new” S-Class Coupe should break cover by mid-2010, with a possible public debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Expect sales to begin in early 2011 |
