Tata Bolt 2014
Tata Motors has set its mind on revamping its brand image in the country in 2014. With its new mission, the Indian automaker has revealed two important models, which are intended to mark the company’s step away from everything that is known to be traditional Tata. One such model that has been given the massive task of paving the road to a new direction is the Tata Bolt hatchback that was recently previewed at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show.
Developed by Tata Motors to replace the ageing Vista platform, the Bolt hatchback looks like an evolution of the Tata Indica shape, while staying true to certain design cues that we are used to seeing on the decade old platform. The trademark vertically stacked tail lights have now been replaced with the more conventional, stouter set. The Bolt hatch features edgy styling, especially in the headlight and the grille department combined with a curvaceous body shape that Tata has been known to have in most of their cars. The interiors too, is a large step up from the Vista platform, while still using some cues from the previous generation.
Just like the Vista, the Tata Bolt remains spacious on the inside. However, what is most striking is the completely re-designed dashboard and the overall improvement in fit and finish of the materials, switches and knobs. It’s evident that Tata has paid careful attention to everything that you touch and move in the Bolt hatchback.
Powering the Tata Bolt hatchback will be the new 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged Revotron petrol engine that is rated at 75PS and 145Nm. The diesel variants on the other hand, will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged Qudrajet powerplant that churns out 75PS of max power and 190Nm of peak torque. Both engines will come mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox
Once launched in the Indian market, the Tata Bolt will give tough competition to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio, Chevrolet Sail, Volkswagen Polo and the Datsun Go.
