This is Karim Habib. You may not recognize his name or his face, but you surely will know his work. The young designer is credited with designing the exteriors of both the current
BMW 7 Series and the 2007
Concept CS that preceded it. And now he's back at
BMW.
Habib, 40, spent ten years working for BMW, rising up through the ranks to work alongside the controversial but influential Chris Bangle. But he left BMW last year to work for arch rival
Mercedes-Benz, a period which BMW simply calls "an absence of two years." Now that Munich's exterior design chief
Anders Warming is leaving to take up the head design role at the
Mini division, BMW has lured Habib back to Bavaria to take up the position.
We'll be watching to see Karim's hand in future BMW designs in the near future, but in the meantime, you can read the official announcement after the jump.
