2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit - Click above to see this image in high-resolution
Ford and
General Motors have already made big splashes this year by introducing their next-generation police pursuit vehicles, and while the
Taurus- and
Caprice-based cruisers will surely be stiff competition for one another,
Chrysler now presents its police fleet offering, the 2011 Charger Pursuit.
The Pursuit is based on the
new-for-2011 Dodge Charger that we only recently saw
almost completely uncovered in spy shots, and will be offered with either Chrysler's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or 5.7-liter Hemi V8. (What, no Pursuit SRT8?) Naturally, this Charger has been modified to be better suited for police duty, and includes things like heavy-duty anti-lock brakes, front and rear stabilizer bars, a two-mode police-specific stability control system and 18-inch performance tires on steel wheels.
Inside, the front cabin has been modified to better serve as a mobile command center, and Chrysler is offering a police interface module for easy integration of existing computer equipment. We aren't sure if this is similar to what Ford has done with the
Taurus Police Interceptor, and we'll have a better idea when we get more images and details about the Pursuit, likely to be released after the civilian Charger is fully unveiled.
Police forces will be able to order the 2011 Charger Pursuit starting next month.
