BMW 5-Series he next logical step is the M5. Set to be revealed in 2011, the next M5 will be powered by the same twin turbo V8 engine used in the X6 M, but in a modified version. The engine will deliver a total of 570 hp and a peak torque will be over 500ft lbs. The engine will be mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
Reports suggest that BMW will recreate the entire platform in Aluminum to dramatically reduce the weight. Also carbon fiber used for some body panels and an optional carbon fiber roof will also be used to reduce the car’s weight.
But the most revolutionary system to be used in the next M5 is the KERS system used in the BMW F1 race car. This system will be a brake energy regeneration system with an electric motor located in the car’s transmission. Stored energy is released by an F1 like switch allowing for extra bursts power for a short time period
