What is it? The Evoque is a new Land Rover model based on the LR2, itself sharing a platform with several Ford of Europe models and the Volvo XC60.

New for Land Rover, the Evoque uses a 240-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission coupled to a Terrain Response system that allows the driver to conveniently configure the vehicle for different traction challenges with the twist of a dial. The Evoque will use GM-sourced MagneRide technology to provide adjustable suspension for on- and off-roading. Land Rover calls the Evoque the smallest, lightest, most fuel-efficient Land Rover ever.

What is new or notable? The Evoque will be the first two-door Land Rover since the Defender. A four-door model will also be offered.

CR's Take: Wearing the Range Rover name is likely designed to justify the $45,000-plus sticker price. Nevertheless, it presents the potential of diluting the storied sub-brand.
