Porsche took advantage of the 11th annual Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Berlin to showcase its green expertise with the introduction of two Boxster E prototypes. The goal is to prove once and for all that an alternatively-powered Boxster boasts the same driving dynamics as a gasoline-powered one. Following similar initiatives such as the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, 918 Spyder and 918 RSR, the first of these Boxster E models uses a pair of independent electric motors (one for each axle) to offer the benefits of all-wheel drive. http://www.auto123.com/ArtImages/131...ter-E-i001.jpg The combined output amounts to 180 kW (241 hp) and a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft, allowing the two-seater to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 200 km/h – all with zero emissions. In order to ensure maximum driving stability and traction, a central electric control unit looks after the synchronization of the two electric motors and controls the drive torque distribution to the front and rear axle. The lithium-iron-phosphate battery provides a range of approximately 170 kilometres. The other Boxster E prototype is a rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor in the back. Producing 90 kW (120 hp) and 199 lb-ft of torque, it shoots from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds, with a top speed of 150 km/h. |
