<br /> As you've know doubt heard, a massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Japan. In the wake of the seismic event; <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/honda/">Honda</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/subaru/">Subaru</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/nissan/">Nissan</a> have shut down and evacuated multiple factories throughout the country. This earthquake is one of the strongest on record in nearly a century, and the damage seen so far is devastating.<br /> <br /> Countless numbers of Japanese citizens have been injured, and reports of the official death toll continue to climb into the hundreds. One worker at a Honda research center was killed when a wall collapsed upon him. Approximately 30 other workers at the facility were injured.<br /> <br /> Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire nation of Japan.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-11/toyota-other-japanese-companies-assessing-damage-from-miyagi-earthquake.html" target="_blank">Bloomberg </a> | Image: Associated Press/NHK TV]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/11/report-toyota-honda-subaru-and-nissan-close-plants-in-wake-of/">Report: Toyota, Honda, Subaru and Nissan close plants in wake of Japanese earthquake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 11 Mar 2011 09:52:00 EST.
