Report: BMW 1 Series sales halted pending recall for fire risk

According to dealer documents obtained by <em>Consumer Reports</em>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> has instructed dealers to stop delivery of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/1+series">1 Series</a> models built between January and May of 2010 due to a fire risk.<br />
<br />
The documents cites insufficient clearance between the B-pillar and the seat belt tensions, which, in the event of a crash, could result in friction, leading to overheating and a potential fire.<br />
<br />
In addition to the aforementioned 2010 models, certain 2008-2011 1 Series coupes could be affected by the issue. Owners can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 for more details and to see if their vehicle falls under the recall.<br />
