رالي داكار السنوي يتكون من 14 مرحلة ويبلغ طول الطريق الى خط النهاية الى سانتياغو في تشيلي حوالي 8500 كم مرورا على بيرو والأرجنتين الى خط النهاية في شيلي بعد التغلب على الطرق الخطرة,ويبلغ عدد المتسابقين حوالي 450 فريق ولكل فريق حرية المشاركة اما بالسيارات او الدراجات النارية او الشاحنات.
