2012 Renault Fluence Z.E. electric car ahead of its launch next year
 

Renault UK has revealed the price of the 2012 Renault Fluence Z.E. electric car ahead of its launch next year.
Renault says the Fluence Z.E. will become the most affordable electric car on the market when it goes on sale for a driveaway price of £17,850 after the UK Government’s £5000 Plug-In Car Grant ($27,250, less the $7630 grant).
The announcement is an even stronger indication that Renault Australia will be able to offer the Fluence Z.E. for around $30,000.
Like in Australia, Fluence owners in the UK will lease their batteries, although the system will function slightly differently. The standard lease in the UK will be £75 ($115) per month based on a 6000 miles (9656km) per year over three years contract. The total cost of leasing the battery over three years will be £2700 ($4120).
As we reported last week, Better Place has signed an agreement with Renault Australia to fully support Fluence Z.E. electric vehicles, with a number of tailored memberships to provide unlimited access to swappable batteries, the network of public charge spot and battery switch stations, and personal charge spots at home or work.
Renault UK has given the Fluence every chance to succeed. At £17,850 driveaway, it will be £6140 ($9370) cheaper than the Mitsubishi i-MiEV – or £3440 ($5250) with the battery lease taken out of the equation.
Renault also says the Fluence Z.E. will be £855 ($1300) less expensive than the similarly equipped Megane Hatch Dynamic TomTom.
The entry-level Fluence Z.E. in the UK will come standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control and ecoMeter with smart satellite navigation.
The 2012 Renault Fluence Z.E. compact sedan will go on sale in Canberra in the second quarter of next year
