BMW releases limited Z4 Silver Top edition for Japan

<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> has a strong following in the Land of the Rising Sun, and has been gracing it with a number of special editions over the past several years. We recently reported on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/03/bmw-releases-japan-only-120i-performance-unlimited/">120i Performance Unlimited edition</a>, and now BMW Japan has followed up with the new Silver Top edition of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/z4">Z4</a> roadster.<br />

As you might have guessed the Silver Top is distinguished by its silver top. The contrast with the black body color gives it a rather Zagato-like profile, and the mirror housings get the same treatment. In case the look wasn't complete enough, the interior has been decked out in red leather as well. It's based on the sDrive23i trim level, pairing the 2.5-liter six with the six-speed automatic transmission. <br />

Only 15 examples will be offered exclusively in Japan with a 5.590 million yen sticker price - about $69k by today's conversion rates - with deliveries slated to arrive in April 2011. BMW Individual teams up with Steinway for 7 Series Composition

Some may deride it as dressed-up plastic - and in some cases it is exactly that - but piano black lacquer trim is now regularly seen in luxury automobile interiors. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a>'s custom-appointment division, however, has taken things a step further.<br />
<br />
Teaming up with Steinway & Sons, BMW Individual presents the 7 Series Composition. The unique trim level can be ordered in either an ebony or ivory finish with a special three-layer clearcoat. A gold pinstripe and special 20-inch wheels further distinguish the exterior, while the passenger compartment is decked out in merino leather (black or white to contrast, not match, the exterior), lambswool carpets, Alcantara headliner, special embroidery, and, of course, piano black trim.<br />

Though the images in the gallery below show a hybrid model, BMW Individual will similarly equip any car in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/7+series">7 Series</a> range for the big concerto. Details in the press release after the jump.<br />

2012 BMW 650i Convertible a no-show in LA

<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> wanted to get in on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a> festivities, so it dropped most of the details on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/6+series">2012 650i convertible</a> without trotting the drop-top onto the show floor. We say "most" of the details, because pricing, options and EPA numbers are still MIA. <br />
<br />
What we do know is the new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/6+series">Sixer's</a> sheetmetal is inspired by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/18/paris-preview-bmw-shows-off-6-series-coupe-concept/">6 Series Coupe Concept</a> from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/">Paris</a> and is the same model <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/13/2012-bmw-6-series-convertible-caught-on-photo-shoot/">we spied back in October</a>. If you're up on BMW's nonsensical numerological nomenclature the 650i is packing the automaker's twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 sending 400 horsepower (peaking at 6,400 rpm) and 450 pound-feet of torque (from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm) through an eight speed automatic or six-speed manual. Naturally, power is sent to the rear wheels, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds and the de rigueur electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. <br />

As expected, BMW has stuck with a traditional cloth top which can be opened in 19 seconds and closed in a claimed 24 seconds up to speeds of 25 mph. A new optional full-color heads-up display complete with 3D graphics and the new iDrive 10.2-inch screen are part of the package. There are many prominent and wealthy collectors of exotic supercars on Earth, but few can rival the secretive collection of the royal house of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sultan+of+brunei">Brunei</a>. The collection has been the subject of much conjecture, with only occasional leaks betraying its contents, but now part of the collection has apparently gone up for sale.<br />

Among those rarities up for grabs are three <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/lamborghini">Lamborghinis </a>, two lightweight <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche">Porsche</a> 911 Turbos, a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/jaguar">Jaguar</a> XJ220, one of only eight Cizeta V16s ever produced, the ItalDesign <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> Nazca and no fewer than 25 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ferrari">Ferraris</a>, including an Enzo, an F50, an F40 and a custom 512 TR Spider.<br />

Although the broker - based in New Zealand with the collection rumored to be located currently in Singapore - does not disclose the liquidating owner, few others than the Sultan of Brunei and his controversial brother Prince Jefri could have amassed such an assembly of exotica. Many of the cars have no more on the odometer than their original factory mileage, and all are worth well into the six and seven figures, making this easily one of the most valuable collections ever put up for sale.
