Report: Creed to head BMW NA marketing after Pitney passing

Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/hirings-firings/" rel="tag">Hirings/Firings/Layoffs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="Dan Creed, BMW" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/09/bmwcreedfourpitney.jpg" /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a>'s North American Vice President of Aftersales, Dan Creed, has been chosen to replace former marketing VP Jack Pitney, who <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/26/breaking-jack-pitney-bmw-north-america-marketing-vp-dead-at-4/">passed away last month</a> as the result of a tragic accident on his farm. Creed will pick up the reins of marketing as well as product planning and strategy for The Roundel in North America. 
 
Creed has been with BMW since 1996, when he joined the automaker's Canadian arm. His past assignments for the company have included Canada's National Sales Manager and head of the Southern Region of BMWNA. In his role as the President of Aftersales, Creed presided over parts, service, accessories and lifestyle schwag for both Bimmer and Mini.

Good news, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> fans. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> has turned up the level of smart phone integration in its vehicles in a big way. The company will be showing off its new ConnectedDrive system at the 2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a>. The swank tech not only boasts Bluetooth wizardry and a text-to-speech function that will allow drivers to access text messages, memos, emails and the like from their Blackberry, it will also work with Apple iOS4. That means that the system clicks with the latest <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/iphone">iPhone</a>. 
 
But wait, there's more. 
 
The German manufacturer is also introducing something it calls iPod Out that's designed to make the most of using Apple music players in the vehicle. There's even a handy docking system for the iPad in the back seats. What's more, BMW will offer a mobile hotspot system with ConnectedDrive so that passengers can surf the web without burning up their data plans. Welcome to the brave new world. Spyker confirms talks with BMW after reports that 2012 9-3 will get Bimmer power

<a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/spyker+cars">Spyker Cars</a> has released an official statement confirming that it is in talks with <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> about future component sharing. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/02/report-bmw-to-build-9-2-on-mini-chassis-for-saab/">rumors surrounding this topic</a> had initially suggested that BMW would lend <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/saab">Saab</a> its <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/countryman">Mini Countryman</a> platform to underpin a smaller <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/9-2">9-2</a> model, but new reports indicate that the larger <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/9-3">9-3</a> could be the first to benefit from this partnership. 
 
The next-generation Saab 9-3 is expected to launch in 2012. If the Spyker/BMW talks go well, the new 9-3 could be powered by an all-new Bimmer-sourced engine that produces around 220 horsepower, according to Bloomberg. BMW's EfficientDynamics technologies would naturally be used within this new powerplant, and according to the report, we shouldn't rule out the possibility of seeing this mill under the hood of the <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/9-5">9-5</a> flagship. 
 
Of course, a teardrop-shaped Saab 9-2 is still on the table, with the automaker hoping to launch it by 2014 if it can find a partner.
