2011 BMW 5 Series xDrive sedans start at $52,775

The all-wheel-drive editions of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/5+series">2011 BMW 5 Series</a> won't be arriving stateside until October, but at least we now knowwhat the latest xDrive models will cost. The 535i xDrive kicks off at $52,775 while the twin-turbo V8-powered 550i xDrive will set you back a minimum of $62,875. Both prices including an $875 destination charge.<br />
<br />
The xDrive system on the new 5 Series is not quite as sophisticated as the clutch-controlled torque vectoring on the X6, but it can utilize individual braking on the rear wheels to send torque to either side as needed to counteract oversteer or understeer. The central clutch pack also defaults to sending 80 percent of the torque to the rear axle to minimize understeer and retain <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW's</a> familiar driving dynamics, shifting the balance to the front only when needed for traction. All xDrive 5 Series models also get hill descent control to maintain a constant speed when going down a slippery grade. eBay Find of the Day: 1957 BMW 507 is a black beauty

The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> 507 is arguably the most beautiful and certainly among the rarest production models ever to emerge from Munich, with only 253 produced between 1956 and 1959. The 507 was the first BMW built with a V8 engine and remained the only model to use one until the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/7+series">740i</a> debuted in 1992. The 3.2-liter pushrod V8 under the 507's bonnet was rated at either 150 or 160 horsepower. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately, as attractive as the 507 was, its $10,000 price tag made it a bigger commercial failure than the more recent Z8. Following the 507's demise, BMW didn't build another roadster until the 1989 Z1. <br />
<br />
This particular example appears to be in very good condition aside from its slightly foggy rear window. It spent a good part of its life at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas, where it was purported to be one of two owned by Elvis Presley. As this is written, <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-/120584208629?cmd=ViewItem &pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=i tem1c136100f5">the $400,000 top bid</a> has not cleared the reserve price, so you still have a chance to remortgage the house and get in on this action. <br />

Spy Shots: 2012 BMW M6 ready to tackle the 'Ring

For the last few months, there's been a barrage of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/6+series">BMW 6 Series</a> spy shots. But with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/14/spy-shots-bmw-6-series-convertible-continues-its-striptease/">coupe</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/25/spy-shots-next-gen-bmw-6-series-caught-topless-without-shame/">convertible</a> performing a slow striptease in Germany, one model has been noticeably absent: the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/m6">next-generation M6</a>.<br />
<br />
Caught testing this morning outside the Nurburgring, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW's</a> high-po coupe differs from its staid siblings with upgraded wheels, drilled brake rotors and the standard M-style quad exhausts. The front bumper also benefits from a slight reworking when compared to the standard 6 Series, with an enlarged lower air dam and something we haven't seen on previous prototypes: a strip of LED turn signal indicators just below the restyled headlamps.<br />

If the 2012 M6 is anything like its predecessors, it's safe to assume that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/20/spy-shots-2011-bmw-m5-strips-away-more-of-its-camo/">all-new M5's</a> powerplant will carry over to the coupe and convertible models. If that's the case, the next M6 will be packing a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/07/report-twin-turbo-v8-confirmed-for-2012-bmw-m5/">modified version of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 </a>currently fitted to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/x5+m">X5 M</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/x6+m">X6 M</a>, with output somewhere north of 555 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. All signs point to a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a> debut for the revised 6 Series, so we'd expect the M6 to debut early next year and go on sale as a 2012 model.<br />

2012 Saab 9-3 to rival Audi A3, get Mini Countryman power?

If <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/saab/">Saab</a> is going to survive, much less thrive on its own, it's going to need more fresh product to supplement the just-launched <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/9+5">9-5</a>. An all-new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/9+3">9-3</a> is going to play a big part in the revival of the Swedish brand, and Saab is reportedly hard at work on a new platform for its mainstream model. <br />
<br />
The new platform, reportedly dubbed the "Phoenix Architecture" will likely also underpin the next generation 9-5, although it may adopt some pieces from the current model such as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/25/quick-spin-2010-buick-lacrosse-cxs-gets-hiper-w-video/">Hi-Per strut</a> front suspension. Prior the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">GM</a> bankruptcy, it had been decided that the next 9-3 would move from the mid-size Epsilon platform to the compact Delta platform. At this point it looks like Saab will stick with the downsizing plan with it's internally developed compact as it targets the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/a3">Audi A3</a> is its main competitor. The hardcore Saab fans out there will also be glad to hear that the new model will include a revival of the dearly departed hatchback form factor. <br />

Powerplants remain an open question for Saab, with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> still <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/11/report-saab-talking-to-bmw-about-using-mini-platform-for-new-9/">likely to be the front-runner as a supplier</a>. The 1.6-liter engines from the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/countryman">Mini Countryman</a> are one probably candidate, with the 184 horsepower turbocharged Cooper S being a range topper. Before the new 9-3 arrives in 2012, Saab may also do a refresh of the current model, adding the 180 horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four that recently debuted in the new Astra. <br />

Through the wonder of the internet, we've been given an early glimpse at a set of M goodies for next-year's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/5+series">BMW 5 Series</a>. Bimmer Today managed to get their hands on a few scanned brochure images of a long roof wearing a few fancy bits of kit, including a reworked front fascia, aggressive side skirts and tweaked rear diffuser. The scans even show a couple of extra wheel options that should be available on 2011 models. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> has managed to up the sex appeal by slathering the parts all over a long roof 5, but we feel pretty safe in guessing that the same parts will be available on sedan models as well.<br />

Inside, buyers opting for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/31/spy-shots-new-bmw-5-series-m-sport-package-out-and-about/">M Sport package</a> can expect a few minor changes, including a new three-spoke steering wheel, seats trimmed out in a new design and an M-branded shift knob. The photos don't say too much about what kind of performance upgrades will come along with the bolt-ons, but we would be surprised if BMW decided to stray from its tried and true formula of offering a more aggressive suspension along with the new track suit. <br />
