Report: Saab talking to BMW about using Mini platform for new 9-2

</a> <br /> When <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/saab/">Saab</a> first showed the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/03/geneva-08-previe-saab-9-x-biohybrid-concept/">9-X Biohybrid concept</a> at the 2008 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/geneva-motor-show/">Geneva Motor Show</a>, it was expected to evolve into a production model based on General Motors' compact Delta architecture which forms the foundation of the Opel Astra and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/cruze">Chevrolet Cruze</a>. Now that Saab is owned by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/spyker/">Spyker Cars</a>, CEO Victor Muller is reportedly looking for a new platform partner in Munich. <br /> <br /> According to Swedish daily <em>Dagens Industri</em>, Saab is negotiating with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> about getting access to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mini/">Mini</a> architecture for a new 9-2 model to slot in underneath the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/9+3">9-3</a>. Before the teardrop-shaped runabout can become a reality, Saab needs to successfully launch both the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/9+5">9-5</a> sedan and the 9-4x crossover.<br /> <br /> There is no word yet on whether Muller is said to be in exclusive talks with BMW, or if Muller and Co. are in discussions with other automakers about supplying platforms and parts for the planned supermini. For its part, news agency <em>Reuters</em> quotes a unnamed BMW spokesman as saying "We are in talks with several interested parties who have interest in our technology... there are no contracts with Saab at the moment."<br /> <br /> The 9-4x, which shares its platform with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/srx">Cadillac SRX</a>, is expected to finally launch early next year. But for the model to be successful in Europe, it will need to have a diesel engine option, and <em>Dagens Industri</em> is also reporting that BMW could also provide engines options, although that could be more problematic. The 9-4x has a transverse mounted powertrain, but all of BMW's engines are longitudinally arrayed, which would require significant re-engineering. <em>A tip of the hat to William!</em><br /> <br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSLDE65A0EC20100611">Re uters</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/11/report-saab-talking-to-bmw-about-using-mini-platform-for-new-9/">Report: Saab talking to BMW about using Mini platform for new 9-2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 10:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>2008 Fisker Latigo CS on eBay - Click above for image gallery</small><br /> </strong></em></div> <br /> Are you not a fan of the current <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/6+series">BMW 6 Series</a>? Can you not wait for the next-generation model? Are you looking for something a little more exclusive? Has <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/fisker">Fisker</a> caught your attention with the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/karma">Karma</a>, but not so much for its hybrid drivetrain? If your answer to any of these questions was an emphatic "yes," then you may want to have a look at this eBay Motors listing.<br /> <br /> Before kicking off his ambitious luxury hybrid project and after having penned such gorgeous sportscars as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/v8+vantage">Aston Martin V8 Vantage</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bmwz8">BMW Z8</a> roadster, the noted Danish designer Henrik Fisker started his own coachbuilding operation. The California-based operation had two products: the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sl-class">Mercedes SL</a>-based Tramonto and this, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/m6">BMW M6</a>-based Latigo CS. Only 150 examples of each were made, and one of the latter - a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/09/fisker-already-updating-exclusive-latigo-cs/">post-revision 2008 model</a> - has now popped up for grabs on eBay. <br /> <br /> Mechanically, the Latigo is essentially the same as the M6 up which it is based, but Fisker managed to cut out some excess weight and enlisted the services of tuning house RDSport to tune the high-revving 5.0-liter V10 engine up to 648 horsepower. Stiffer springs and custom rolling stock are also part of the package, to say nothing of the exquisitely-crafted interior. This particular example has a Buy It Now sticker of $90,000; check it out in the extensive image gallery below or follow the link to the auction page.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs-on-ebay/low/">2008 Fisker Latigo CS on eBay</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs-on-ebay/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/fisker-latigo-cs-v1o-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs-on-ebay/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/fisker-latigo-cs-v1o-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs-on-ebay/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/fisker-latigo-cs-v1o-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs-on-ebay/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/fisker-latigo-cs-v1o-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs-on-ebay/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/fisker-latigo-cs-v1o-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs/low/">2008 Fisker Latigo CS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/latigo-cs-02-copy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/fiskerlatigocsv10_104_thu mbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/fisker1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/fisker2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-fisker-latigo-cs/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/08/fisker3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2008-FISKER-LATIGO-CS-/110543678537?cmd=ViewItem &pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=i tem19bceaac49#lg">eBay Motors</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/11/ebay-find-of-the-day-2008-fisker-latigo-cs/">eBay Find of the Day: 2008 Fisker Latigo CS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 16:57:00 EST. BMW Art Car and all-female Ford GT out of Le Mans

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>BMW Art Car and all-female Ford GT out of Le Mans - Click above for image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/#3070647"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" align="right" alt="" class="right border" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/artcarfordgt009opt.jpg" /></a>Artist Jeff Koons' special paint scheme is now the only thing that makes the #79 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/02/bmw-art-car-by-jeff-koons-unveiled-for-24-hours-of-le-mans-w-vi/">BMW M3 GT2 Art Car</a> look like it's moving. Just after starting the sixth hour of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/24hoursofLeMans/">24 hours of Le Mans</a>, the BMW was crawling around the track for the third time. Andy Priaulx pulled off the course onto the grass and began swerving back and forth as though he was out of fuel. Unfortunately, it was to no avail as the M3 rolled to a stop for good. The marshals pushed the car behind the guardrail and Priaulx set off on foot for the pits. <br /> <br /> Meanwhile in GT1, the all-female team of Natacha Gachnang, Cyndie Allemann and Rahel Frey have finished their race in the #61 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/">Ford GT</a> as well. At about the same time the BMW Art Car gave up the ghost, Gachnang pulled over right in front of the marshal's stand at the Mulsanne corner with thick smoke pouring out of the Ford. Gachnang, who has been limping on crutches all week, was able to crawl out of the car just as the marshals arrived with fire extinguishers. At this point, we haven't heard the cause of the fire.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/">BMW Art Car and all-female Ford GT out of Le Mans</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/#3070642"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/artcarfordgt000_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/#3070645"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/artcarfordgt001_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/#3070644"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/artcarfordgt002_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/#3070643"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/artcarfordgt003_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/#3070641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/artcarfordgt004_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.speedtv.com/">Speed</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/12/bmw-art-car-and-all-female-ford-gt-out-of-le-mans/">BMW Art Car and all-female Ford GT out of Le Mans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sat, 12 Jun 2010 15:31:00 EST. Aurora Racing preps GT1-spec Alpina B6

<br /> What you see above is a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/6+series">BMW 6 Series</a> - but just barely. Since leaving Munich, it's been transformed into the B6 by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/alpina">Alpina</a>, then into the race-spec <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/05/geneva-2009-bmw-alpina-b6-gt3-puts-the-ring-on-notice/">B6 GT3</a>, and is now in the process of being converted to top-tier GT1 spec by yet another company, Aurora Racing Designs.<br /> <br /> The motorsport concern is a joint effort by former McLaren engineer Nicholas Galbraith and former Alpina racing designer Andreas Puschel. Together they're taking the development of the B6 GT1 off Alpina's hands so that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> tuner can focus its energies on its current customer GT3 racing program. Sounds promising. We'd guess the chassis is targeted to join various Le Mans Series grids and the new FIA GT1 World Championship in time for next season. BMW racing fans should stay tuned for more.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.planetlemans.com/2010/06/09/aurora-racing-working-on-bmw-alpina-b6-gt1/?utm_source=feedburner&ut m_medium=feed&utm_campaig n=Feed%3A+planetlemans+%2 8Planetlemans+Newsfeed%29 ">Planet Le Mans</a> via <a href="http://www.motorpasion.com/otras-competiciones/alpina-b6-gt1">Motorpasion</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/13/aurora-racing-preparing-gt1-spec-alpina-b6/">Aurora Racing preps GT1-spec Alpina B6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sun, 13 Jun 2010 11:25:00 EST. BMW teases new U.S.-only model lurking in the shadows
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sports/" rel="tag">Performance</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/luxury/" rel="tag">Luxury</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-teaser-photos/"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/bmw-tease-1-630.jpg" /></a>
<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>BMW teaser photos - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> If there's one thing the auto world loves, it's a good tease. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> has been happy to oblige this afternoon by dropping three photos of a new model fit just for U.S. consumption. Details are fittingly scarce, though the company does say that it will drop full details on the world come Thursday. Since we've been left to our own devices, how about a little rampant speculation to get the ball rolling? Judging from the front fascia, we're guessing the new car is gussied up <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/m3">M3</a>. The smattering of M logos throughout the cabin leads us to believe that the new kid on the block will likely boast a more sporting pedigree than its brethren, and since the America-only <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/28/first-drive-2011-bmw-335is-munich-finally-builds-a-special-on/">335is</a> is already down the pike, another pepped up 3 Series wouldn't make much sense.<br /> <br /> From the looks of things, there's definitely a dual-clutch cog box at play, though it's unclear if that will be the only option. Now the only question is whether the company will tweak the V8 found in the M3 or whether it will leave it alone and instead make other upgrades, and there's also the question of which bodystyle(s) the car will be available with, as the M3 is currently available in coupe, sedan, and convertible form. Keep your ears pinned back for more information later in the week. Until then, let your imagination run wild.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-teaser-photos/low/">BMW Teaser Photos</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-teaser-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/bmw-tease-1-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-teaser-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/bmw-tease-2-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-teaser-photos/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/06/bmw-tease-3-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: BMW]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/14/bmw-teases-new-u-s-only-model-lurking-in-the-shadows/">BMW teases new U.S.-only model lurking in the shadows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 14 Jun 2010 16:56:00 EST.
