Autoblog Podcast #177 - What's up with The AB Podcast in iTunes?

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>Click above for the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes, RSS or listen now!</small></strong></em></div> <br /> Before we get to this week's show, we wanted to explain what's up with The Autoblog Podcast in iTunes. The short story is that <a href="http://www.tvsquad.com/">TV Squad</a>, one of our sister sites in the AOL Network, recently received an update that went awry. The result was all of our RSS feeds being replaced with the TV Squad RSS feed. The issue was quickly fixed, but for some reason iTunes isn't recognizing this fact and continues to display the TV Squad podcast as if it were the The Autoblog Podcast. We're in contact with people from iTunes who assure us the problem is being worked on, so hang tight.<br /> <br /> In the mean time, if you subscribe to The Autoblog Podcast via iTunes, <strong>you will not automatically receive this week's episode</strong>. The easiest workaround until we get this fixed is to use the link below to <a href="http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/stadium.weblogsinc.com/autoblog/podcasts/05-11-10-autoblog-E177.mp3"><strong>downloa d the MP3 file directly</strong></a> and drag it into iTunes. We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience, even though it's not our fault. Send your hate mail to TV Squad. <br /> <br /> Chris Shunk, Sam Abuelsamid, Dan Roth, and Steven Ewing take on topsy-turvy topics like hybrid Ferraris, the Land Rover LRX, Hyundai's focus-grouping a pickup truck, Toyota's possible hydrogen future, and the OnStar relaunch. There's the Autoblog Garage to start, and we finish with questions for this week's 80-minute installment. See you next week! <br /> <br /> <strong>Autoblog Podcast #177: What? Special Editions all around: BMW celebrates 30 years of the GS with new models
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/timewarp/" rel="tag">Classics</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/motorcycles/" rel="tag">Motorcycle</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/"><img hspace="0" border="0" align="top" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/30th-gs-cover.jpg" alt="" /></a>
<div style="text-align: center;"><small><em><stro ng>All grown up, the R1200GS shows off its anniversary suite - Click above for high-res image gallery<br /> <br /> </strong></em></small></div> What do you get for for someone who has it all? Dashing good looks, a successful career; someone who has traveled to the world's most remote locations and gathered a dedicated fan base along the way, and all of this against the odds of critics who scoffed when they were just getting their feet off the ground. If that someone is a something and more specifically, a motorcycle, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a> has the answer. The company will be honoring three decades of the world's best-selling line of motorcycles, the GS, with a limited run of 30th Anniversary Special Edition models.<br /> <br /> Anniversary models will offer a distinct red saddle complete with a protruding GS insignia, clad with white bodywork as well as decals announcing "30 Years GS." The senior GS (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/10/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-bmw-r-1200-gs/">1200, including adventure mode</a>l) will also include a tinted windscreen, handguards and black wheels. But fear not if <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/06/bmw-unleashes-2010-r-1200-gs-with-dohc-boxer-engine/">the largest of the GS line</a> is just too portly for your stable, as the special editions will be available in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/28/first-drive-bmw-f-800-gs-takes-on-the-rawhyde-adventure-rider-challe/">F800GS</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/22/bmw-f-650-gs-gets-reintroduction-to-the-u-s/">F650GS</a> varieties as well. No official word on pricing, but history reveals only moderate price premiums for anniversary models from the Bavarian brand. If you suddenly find yourself with an uncontrollable desire to have and to hold one of these limited models, don't wait for congress to vote on it as a reliable source inside BMW tells us that each U.S. dealer is only guaranteed the chance to sell one of the limited models, which equates to roughly 150 of each size bike.<br /> <br /> 1980 was the year that marked the birth of the original R80 G/S, and so the marriage of adventure and motorcycle became official. It has been said that BMW essentially answered a question that had not been yet been asked. It has been a long journey for BMW and it's GS lineup, one filled with rough patches and dirt sections, possibly even brief moments of regret. But really, that is is the type of journey that embodies the whole GS concept, right? Here's to another 30 years, and what they may have in store for of one or our favorite choices when all that is known is the unknown.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/">Anniversary BMW GS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/#2971213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/30th-gs-side_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/#2971217"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/30thgs-side2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/#2971211"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/30th-gs-seat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/#2971215"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/30th-gs-tank-close_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/anniversary-bmw-gs/#2971209"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/30th-gs-rear-left_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: BMW]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/11/special-editions-all-around-bmw-celebrates-30-years-of-the-gs-w/">Special Editions all around: BMW celebrates 30 years of the GS with new models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 11 May 2010 19:24:00 EST. Spy Shots: Hi-Po BMW 1 Series prototype flashes quad tailpipes to camera
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/spyphotos/" rel="tag">Spy Photos</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/coupes/" rel="tag">Coupe</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sports/" rel="tag">Performance</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1m-with-quad-pipes/#2973081"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/m1-quad-3-copy.jpg" alt="" /></a>
<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong> <small>BMW 1 series M prototype - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> It seems every time we catch a glimpse of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW's</a> upcoming high performance <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/1+series">1 Series</a>, more details are revealed. Up until now, all of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/13/spy-shots-and-video-bmw-m1-1-series-m-laps-the-ring/">mules</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/23/video-bmw-1-series-m-prototype-makes-an-appearance-at-the-ring/">prototypes</a> have had only two exhaust pipes. In contrast, the newest car to get caught on camera now has four pipes. Why is this significant? Because four pipes are one of the characteristic features of all M models.<br /> <br /> This four-piped addition seems to indicate that this car will, in fact, earn that coveted M badge. We still don't know exactly what the widebody 1 will be called, of course, and we are leaning toward 1 Series M, something such as 1xx M (as in 140 M) is not out of the question.<br /> <br /> If this mystery car is a 1xx M, we would expect the higher output engine to get a designation correspondingly higher than the current top 135 in keeping with BMW's sort-of-power-related naming convention. We still don't know when this car will debut, but sometime during the next auto show season seems probable.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1m-with-quad-pipes/low/">Spy Shots: BMW M1 / 1M with quad pipes</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1m-with-quad-pipes/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/m1-quad-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1m-with-quad-pipes/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/m1-quad-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1m-with-quad-pipes/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/m1-quad-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-bmw-m1-1m-with-quad-pipes/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/m1-quad-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: CarPix]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/12/spy-shots-hi-po-bmw-1-series-prototype-flashes-quad-tailpipes-t/">Spy Shots: Hi-Po BMW 1 Series prototype flashes quad tailpipes to camera</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Wed, 12 May 2010 19:24:00 EST. Mirror In The Bathroom: BMW Canada starts sexy new ad campaign to promote 3 Series Coupe [w/video]

<br /> Imagine this: You're in a public restroom, tidying up in front of the mirror, and you notice a message (written in red lipstick, of course) that says, "I'll make your heart pound," or, "My body is absolutely stunning." You'd want to learn more, right? <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> of Canada is hoping that men between the ages of 25 and 45 will agree, as the automaker will be launching a new ad campaign for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/3+series">3 Series Coupe</a> using AddMirror technology that will display these risqué messages in public restroom mirrors across the country.<br /> <br /> So, how does it work? As a patron approaches the mirror, motion detectors sense the person's movement and displays a sequence of messages urging readers to send text messages for photos of the subject leaving the flirtatious notes. When BMW receives the text, a link is sent back, leading readers to a landing page with downloadable beauty shots of the 3 Series Coupe, under the headline, "We were made for each other." <em>Ooh la la!</em><br /> <br /> The marketing campaign runs until May 16th in different venues throughout Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. For the full listing, BMW's press release is available after the jump, as is a video that shows the AddMirror technology at work.<br /> <br /> [Source: BMW]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/13/mirror-in-the-bathroom-bmw-canada-starts-sexy-new-ad-campaign-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mirror In The Bathroom: BMW Canada starts sexy new ad campaign to promote 3 Series Coupe [w/video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/13/mirror-in-the-bathroom-bmw-canada-starts-sexy-new-ad-campaign-t/">Mirror In The Bathroom: BMW Canada starts sexy new ad campaign to promote 3 Series Coupe [w/video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 13 May 2010 08:59:00 EST. BMW may bring diesel 5 Series to America
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sedans/" rel="tag">Sedan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/diesel/" rel="tag">Diesel</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/luxury/" rel="tag">Luxury</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/#2646910"><img hspace="0" border="1" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/05/08bmw535i2011reviewopta.j pg" alt="" /></a>
<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>2011 BMW 5 Series - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> The new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/5+series">2011 BMW 5 Series</a> hasn't even gone on sale yet here in North America but there are now reports that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> might add a diesel engine option. According to <a href="http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2010/05/bmw-confirms-5-series-diesel-for-the-us.html">Inside Line</a>, BMW will add diesel engine options to two more models in addition to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/17/review-2009-bmw-x5-xdrive35d-delivers-obsolesce-to-gasoline-pow/">X5 xDrive35d</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/10/review-2009-bmw-335d-proves-efficient-dynamics-is-more-entert/">335d</a> already sold here with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six diesel. <br /> <br /> The 3.0-liter with 265 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque would be ideally suited to the new 5 Series and has already been calibrated to pass U.S. 50 state emissions regulations. We drove a previous generation European specification <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2007/12/17/in-the-autobloggreen-garage-2007-bmw-535d-yes-its-a-diesel/">535d</a> two years ago, which was quite the stormer while also being extremely fuel efficient. A 535d would also go a long way towards helping BMW meet new CAFE regulations here in the U.S. <br /> <br /> The second diesel addition could be one of several models. Diesel versions of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/7+series">7 Series</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/x6">X6</a> both seem unlikely since BMW is already offering hybrid versions of both. The more likely scenario is the installation of the company's <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/08/05/in-the-autobloggreen-garage-2008-bmw-123d-3-door-hatchback/">2.0-liter inline four- cylinder diesel</a> in either the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/1+series">1</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/3+series">3 Series</a>. In twin-turbocharged form, this engine produces 204 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, plenty for either car with a combined fuel economy in the 35-40 mpg range. <br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/low/">First Drive: 2011 BMW 535i</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/08bmw535i2011review_thumb nail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/05bmw535i2011review_thumb nail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/06bmw535i2011review_thumb nail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/12bmw535i2011review_thumb nail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-bmw-535i-first-drive/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/01/10bmw535i2011review_thumb nail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2010/05/bmw-confirms-5-series-diesel-for-the-us.html">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/13/is-bmw-planning-to-bring-a-diesel-5-series-to-america/">BMW may bring diesel 5 Series to America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 13 May 2010 10:29:00 EST.
