Spy Shots: 2010 BMW 5 Series nearing completion

<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>2010 BMW 5 Series - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The 2010 BMW 5 Series is due to hit the market early next year and these latest spy shots are a clear, if predictable, indication of what styling changes are on their way.<br /><br />The front fascia adopts the upright nose, elongated twin-kidney grille and contoured headlamps (Dame Edna be gone!) originally shown on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/20097Series/">2009 7 Series</a>, while the rear takes on a set of similarly styled tail lamps and looses the Bangled rump we've come to know and loathe.<br /><br />The overall effect should tie in well with the recently revealed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/BMW5SeriesGranTurismo/">BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo</a>, and expect similar powertrain options to be available, including the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, 3.0-liter V6 and a host of diesel options offered abroad. Transmission choices will likely include a six-speed manual and an all-new eight-speed gearbox supplied by ZF. And then there's the 2011 M5 to look forward to.<br /><br />Expect the next M-fettled 5er to pack the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/X6M/">X6 M</a>/<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/X5M/">X5 M</a>'s tweaked twin-turbo'd eight nestled within a revised chassis sure to use considerable amounts of aluminum and carbon fiber. It's obvious that development of the next 5 is well underway, and we wouldn't be surprised to see it unveiled at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/FrankfurtMotorShow/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> this September, with the M5 appearing later in 2010.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series/">Spy Shots: 2010 BMW 5 Series</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series/2137401/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/01-2010-bmw-5series-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series/2137403/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/02-2010-bmw-5series-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series/2137404/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/03-2010-bmw-5series-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series/2137402/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/04-2010-bmw-5series-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series/2137405/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/05-2010-bmw-5series-kgp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/10/spy-shots-2010-bmw-5-series-nearing-completion/">Spy Shots: 2010 BMW 5 Series nearing completion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 10 Jul 2009 19:58:00 EST. REPORT: BMW M boss Segler says no M7 model is forthcoming

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sedans/" rel="tag">Sedans/Saloons</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-7-series-m-sport/2105174/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw_m_sport_7.jpg" alt="" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>BMW 7 Series M Sport - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />In an <span style="font-style: italic;">Automotive News </span>interview given to coincide with the launches of the X5 M and X6 M, when asked about an M7 BMW's M division head Kay Segler replied, "We've looked at that and decided not to do it. The 760 with awd is a very strong offer. The M sales would be too small for our total investment." That means that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/24/bmw-7-series-m-sport-images-arrive-on-web/">M Sport version</a> (pictured) is the closest you'll get to a super 7. If you don't mind the lack of an "M" badge, the 507-hp <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/04/geneva-2009-an-m7-by-any-other-name-2009-bmw-alpina-b7-bi-tur/">Alpina B7</a> is an M in all but name. <br /> <br />For those of you at the other end, Segler says he needs a year to look into a M version of the 1-Series, but that an X1 won't be finding its way into the M house yet. Of course, there was a time when BMW said there would be no M versions of any of their so-called "Sports Activity Vehicles," saying they wouldn't fit the brand...<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-7-series-m-sport/">BMW 7 Series M Sport</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-7-series-m-sport/2105174/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/7a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-7-series-m-sport/2105173/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/7b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-7-series-m-sport/2105175/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/7c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-7-series-m-sport/2105172/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/7d_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090713/ANA03/307139977/1178">Automotive News</a>, - sub. req'd]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/report-bmw-m-boss-segler-says-no-m7-model-is-forthcoming/">REPORT: BMW M boss Segler says no M7 model is forthcoming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 13 Jul 2009 16:00:00 EST. Rendered Speculation: BMW S.X. Concept

<div align="center"><strong><e m><small>BMW S.X. Concept - Click above for image gallery</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />Looking at some of the controversial recent designs coming out of BMW, many enthusiasts might think that it's not hard to imagine that study hall doodles would be preferable. Not exactly a schoolboy anymore, Iulian Bumbu has applied skills learned at a Milanese automotive design program to a BMW etude. <br /><br />The car looks like it could actually be possible, wearing design cues that echo the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/13/first-drive-2009-bmw-z4-grows-up-at-cost-of-its-groove/">recently redone Z4</a>. The renderings call to mind the recently scuttled <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/04/bmw-decides-not-to-build-concept-cs/">Concept CS</a> from BMW's own pens, depicting a car that's extra-wide, super-low, and ultra aggressive. In any case, BMW could do worse than this flight of fancy.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-sx-proposal/">BMW Concept SX Proposal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-sx-proposal/2143599/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-sx-concept-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-sx-proposal/2143598/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-sx-concept-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-sx-proposal/2143597/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-sx-concept-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-sx-proposal/2143596/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-sx-concept-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-sx-proposal/2143595/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/bmw-sx-concept_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.0-60mag.com/online/?p=15052">0-60</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/rendered-speculation-bmw-s-x-concept/">Rendered Speculation: BMW S.X. BMW recalling 2008MY 1- and 3-Series; plus 2009MY X5 and X6 models over safety concerns

<div align="center"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>BMW 135i Coupe - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></span><br /></div>
<br />A potential fault with the side airbags fitted to 2008 BMW 1- and 3-Series cars has lead to a recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Apparently, possible fitment of the wrong crimp connector can cause the airbag not to properly deploy. <br /><br />In a separate recall, 2009 model year BMW X5 and X6 crossovers are also being called back to dealers, as they may have been fitted with rear brake discs that don't meet specifications. In extreme cases, the flaw could cause the rear disc to break, which would obviously then hurt the vehicle's ability to stop.<br /><br />Unusually, the number of vehicles possibly covered under the actions has not been released, and BMW has not yet released the protocol for either repair. In any case, you can contact the company or NHTSA for more information. Complete information can be found in the NHTSA notices after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-135i-official-shots/">BMW 135i Official Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-135i-official-shots/638187/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/135i-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-135i-official-shots/638182/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/135i-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-135i-official-shots/638188/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/135i-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-135i-official-shots/638186/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/135i-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-135i-official-shots/638189/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/02/135i-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: NHTSA -- <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/results.cfm?rcl_id=09V257 &searchtype=quicksearch&s ummary=true&refurl=email" >1-Series / 3-Series</a>, <a href="http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/results.cfm?rcl_id=09V255 &searchtype=quicksearch&s ummary=true&refurl=email" >X5 / X6</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/bmw-recalling-2008my-1-and-3-series-plus-2009my-x5-and-x6-mode/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW recalling 2008MY 1- and 3-Series; plus 2009MY X5 and X6 models over safety concerns</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/15/bmw-recalling-2008my-1-and-3-series-plus-2009my-x5-and-x6-mode/">BMW recalling 2008MY 1- and 3-Series; plus 2009MY X5 and X6 models over safety concerns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Wed, 15 Jul 2009 15:58:00 EST. BMW trademarks "Countryman" for Mini crossover name?

<div align="center"><strong><e m><small>MINI Crossover Concept - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></em></strong><br /></div>
<br />Thanks to a few eagle-eyed BMW fans with a handy penchant for tracking trademark filings, we may know the name of the upcoming and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/09/spy-shots-mini-cooper-crossover-spotted-in-california/">oft-spied</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Mini+Crossover/">Mini crossover</a>: the Countryman. If this is indeed the case, the badge would go hand-in-hand with BMW's current naming convention for its Mini line, which includes the extended-length Clubman in addition to the standard Cooper and convertible. We're <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/28/2011-mini-crossover-coming-to-frankfurt-in-production-form/">expecting</a> the new CUV to debut at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/frankfurt-auto-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> in production form as a 2011 model.<br /><br />Interestingly, BMW also trademarked the name ActiveE, which some are speculating will be the moniker applied to the automaker's upcoming electric vehicles as it matches up quite nicely with BMW's present ActiveHybrid series. Last year, the German automaker reserved the name eDrive, and it seems the two labels could somehow be paired together as part of the company's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/projecti">Project I initiative</a>.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/">MINI Crossover Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029028/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/01_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029033/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/02_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029035/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/03_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029029/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/04_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029036/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/05_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.germancarzone.com/new-bmw-models-vehicles/18705-latest-bmw-trademark-filings-9.html">German Car Zone</a> via <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/14/bmw-registers-new-names-activee-and-countryman/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/16/bmw-trademarks-countryman-for-mini-crossover-name/">BMW trademarks "Countryman" for Mini crossover name?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 10:30:00 EST.
