Officially Official: BMW unleashes all the details on S 1000 RR superbike (w/VIDEO)

<br />BMW has finally pulled the wraps off its new <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bmws1000rr">S 1000 RR superbike</a>, and let's just say we're anything but disappointed. First, the most important bits: 193 horsepower at 13,000 RPM, 82.5 lb-ft of torque at 9,750 RPM, 455.3 pounds with a full tank of gas. For those keeping track - which is probably just about anyone interested enough to read this post - those statistics are enough to give the big Beemer the most horsepower and best power-to-weight ratio of all literbikes intended for public consumption.<br /><br />Technophiles and anyone else wanting to post the best lap times possible will also be pleased to know that the S 1000 RR will be available with factory ABS and an extremely advanced traction control system. There's also an HP Gearshift Assistant that will allow for full-power clutchless upshifts.<br /><br />Surely the most controversial element of the bike's otherwise conventional styling will be the symmetrical headlights, which are the only immediately noticeable link to the rest of BMW's motorcycle lineup. Expect U.S. sales to begin early in 2010 for what's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/19/whats-german-for-bargain-bmw-s-1000-rr-superbike-to-be-price/">expected to be a rather attractive price</a>. Want to know more? Click past the break to see a video of the bike in action and BMW's official press release.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-s-1000-rr/">2010 BMW S 1000 RR</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-s-1000-rr/2005739/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_s_1000_rr_13_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-s-1000-rr/2005754/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_s_1000_rr_23_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-s-1000-rr/2005763/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_s_1000_rr_24_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-s-1000-rr/2005744/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_s_1000_rr_26_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-s-1000-rr/2005758/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_s_1000_rr_29_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: BMW Motorrad]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/10/officially-official-bmw-unleashes-all-the-details-on-s-1000-rr/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Officially Official: BMW unleashes all the details on S 1000 RR superbike (w/VIDEO)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/10/officially-official-bmw-unleashes-all-the-details-on-s-1000-rr/">Officially Official: BMW unleashes all the details on S 1000 RR superbike (w/VIDEO)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sun, 10 May 2009 10:01:00 EST. REPORT: BMW dropping a cylinder for next-gen 1- and 3-Series

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/coupes/" rel="tag">Coupes</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/economy/" rel="tag">Economy</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sedans/" rel="tag">Sedans/Saloons</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/green/" rel="tag">Green</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/tech/" rel="tag">Tech</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/hatchbacks/" rel="tag">Hatchbacks</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://motoring.sky.com/news/next-bmw-1--3series-get-3cylinder-engines.aspx"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_3-cylinder_engines.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /><br />The next 1- and 3-Series cars from BMW, as well as the Z2 roadster, are rumored to be getting a new range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder gasoline engines as part of BMW's push to cut emissions and fuel consumption. Of the five powerplants reportedly in development, three are 1.35-liter three-cylinder motors developing between 163 hp and 241 hp, with the two 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engines putting out 273 hp and 321 hp, respectively. Sky Motoring says that the four-pots will be reserved for "more upmarket models."<br /><br />While a 3-Series with a 3-cylinder engine has a certain poetry, it does give one pause. If Sky Motoring's numbers are correct, however, the top end 1.35-liter motor would put out 11 more horsepower than the current 3.0-liter in the 328i. That's a lot of power for such little displacement, and with brand perception issues in the U.S., who knows if we would even get the engines - after all, we don't get any of Mercedes' CGI mills. From where we sit, though, the smaller, lighter engine with its commensurately fewer moving parts could also help bring the sticker price of the 1-Series down - one of the major factors that has prevented it from gaining traction in stateside showrooms.<br /><br />In any case, the new BMW engines are said to be at least two years away, so we look forward to getting more clarifying information in the meantime. <em>Hat tip to Owen</em>!<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://motoring.sky.com/news/next-bmw-1--3series-get-3cylinder-engines.aspx">Sky Motoring</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/11/report-bmw-dropping-a-cylinder-for-next-gen-1-and-3-series/">REPORT: BMW dropping a cylinder for next-gen 1- and 3-Series</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 11 May 2009 10:29:00 EST. The last time we were in this situation -- hoping a car's production version would be a huge improvement over it's pre-production form -- was with the Porsche Panamera, and we know how that ended. While we're certain that this Progressive Activity Sedan has <em>some</em> purpose, we wonder where are all these potential buyers demanding a little more cargo room than a 5 sedan, a little less than a wagon, and one less seat. Check out more photos by clicking the image above.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258911"> 5post</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/12/spy-shots-bmw-5-series-gt/">Spy Shots: BMW 5-Series GT</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 12 May 2009 09:57:00 EST. REPORT: 2010 BMW X3 coming in November

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/crossovers-cuvs/" rel="tag">Crossovers/CUVs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/05/20/latest-news-next-generation-bmw-x3-will-be-unveiled-in-december/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/bmw_x3_2010.jpg" /></a><br /><br />When the X3 launched in 2004 there was no Mercedes GLK or Audi Q5. Now that the other Germans have come with the competition, reports are indicate BMW is moving the launch of the 2010 X3 up to make sure it can compete. <br /><br />The next X3 will be about four inches longer, a half-inch narrower, and a fraction of an inch taller. The extra length will help improve interior room, but the Sport Activity Vehicle is said to be tuned for increased sporting performance. The features list will include hand-me-downs from the 7 Series such as Night Vision and Heads Up Display, and -- in Europe at least -- six engines will be offered: two gasoline and four diesel. We in the U.S. will probably still make do with the either the naturally aspirated or turbocharged 3.0-liter gas engines and possibly a turbo'd four.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/05/20/latest-news-next-generation-bmw-x3-will-be-unveiled-in-december/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/20/report-2010-bmw-x3-coming-in-november/">REPORT: 2010 BMW X3 coming in November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Wed, 20 May 2009 14:28:00 EST.
