BMW to debut production hybrid 7 in Frankfurt?

<strong> <br /></strong>With BMW investing heavily in its Efficient Dynamics program, the next stage could be unveiled at its home-turf Frankfurt show this coming September. Reports out of France suggest that this is where the Bavarian automaker will unveil its 750Hi, a hybrid version of its latest 7-Series flagship sedan.<br /><br />Previewed by the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/22/paris-preview-bmw-7-series-activehybrid/">7-Series ActiveHybrid concept</a> in Paris last fall, Munich's assault on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/08/not-live-not-in-nyc-mercedes-benz-unveils-2010-s600-and-s400-h/">recently revealed S400 Hybrid</a> from arch-rival Mercedes-Benz and the Lexus LS600h is expected to pair an electric motor with its highly-rated 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, providing over 400 horsepower in the unassisted, gas-burning version. While there is no word on how big the electric motor will be, but if Mercedes' solution is anything to go by, look for something in the neighborhood of 20 horsepower, while the new eight-speed automatic that debuted on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/bmw-announces-new-v12-powered-760i-and-760li-in-europe/">the new 760i</a> in Shanghai could see duty in the production hybrid due to potential packaging benefits. If the reports emerge as genuine, we should have more for you over the course of the summer as more details emerge.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.automobile-magazine.fr/actualites/scoops/bmw/bmw_750hi">L'Automobile</a><a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/bmw-750hi-coming-to-the-frankfurt-motor-show/" />]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/30/bmw-to-debut-production-hybrid-7-in-frankfurt/">BMW to debut production hybrid 7 in Frankfurt?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 10:29:00 EST. The world's fastest BMW coupe? 231 mph G-Power M6 Hurricane CS

<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>G-Power M6 Hurricane CS - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />The G-Power crew is constantly striving to produce the most insane BMWs on the planet, combining forced induction with thoroughly revised suspensions and aerodynamics to attain completely unreasonable speeds. It's latest creation, the M6 Hurricane CS, takes the standard set by its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/g-power-takes-4-door-sedan-top-speed-record-with-m5-hurricane-rs/">M5-based Hurricane RS</a>, and straps a duo of superchargers onto the 5.0-liter V10, boosting the coupe's output to 740 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.<br /><br />Combined with a remapped ECU and a titanium exhaust, along with carbon fiber seats and a few other tweaks to reduce the curb weight by around 100 pounds, the CS can run to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, to 124 mph in 9.6 seconds, 187 in 26 seconds and on to a claimed top speed of 227 mph - making it the fastest road-going BMW coupe on Earth.<br /><br />In addition to the twin superchargers and bespoke body-kit, G-Power fitted the CS with carbon ceramic brakes at all four corners, with the front discs measuring in at 380mm and clamped by six-piston calipers. A coil-over suspension with nine adjustable settings joins front and rear anti-roll bars, and for a scant 390,000 euros, it can be yours. All the details can be found in the press release below the fold.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/">G-Power M6 Hurricane CS</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/1528965/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-g-power-hurricane-m6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/1528966/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-g-power-hurricane-m6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/1528967/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-g-power-hurricane-m6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/1528968/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-g-power-hurricane-m6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/1528969/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05-g-power-hurricane-m6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/30/the-worlds-fastest-bmw-coupe-231-mph-g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The world's fastest BMW coupe? 231 mph G-Power M6 Hurricane CS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/30/the-worlds-fastest-bmw-coupe-231-mph-g-power-m6-hurricane-cs/">The world's fastest BMW coupe? 231 mph G-Power M6 Hurricane CS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 18:32:00 EST. 2009 BMW 750i dyno'd, proven under-rated power

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sedans/" rel="tag">Sedans/Saloons</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/1513647/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/001_7series_review_opt.jp g" /></a><br />
<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>2009 BMW 750i - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Somehow, we doubt that dyno numbers are quite as important to individuals who are in the market for a new BMW 7 Series as they are to someone shopping for a new Camaro, GT-R or Corvette. As casual observers, though, we'll always be interested to see what happens when a twin-turbo V8 from Bavaria's finest gets a chance to stretch its legs a bit. Fortunately, we're not disappointed with the results.<br /><br />BMW rates the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 at 400 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 450 pound-feet of torque at 1,800 rpm as it leaves the factory. According to the lucky crew over at <em>Inside Line</em>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/23/review-2009-bmw-750i/">BMW's brand-new 750i</a> managed to put down an impressive 391 horsepower at around 5,500 RPM and 434 lb-ft of torque at about 3,500 RPM. Those numbers are at the rear wheels, so drivetrain losses of around 15% must be factored in to find the true power output of the engine itself.<br /><br />In other words, this engine puts out considerably more ponies than BMW claims. Interestingly, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/22/bmw-335i-dyno-numbers-round-two/">the same is true</a> of BMW's 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine. We don't know about you, but this is an error we can forgive.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/">Review: 2009 BMW 750i</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/1513662/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000_7series_review_thumbn ail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/1513647/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/001_7series_review_thumbn ail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/1513645/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/002_7series_review_thumbn ail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/1513644/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/003_7series_review_thumbn ail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-bmw-750i/1513643/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/004_7series_review_thumbn ail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2009/04/2009-bmw-750i-the-dyno-reveals-the-beast-within.html">Inside Line</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/01/2009-bmw-750i-dynod-proven-under-rated-power/">2009 BMW 750i dyno'd, proven under-rated power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 01 May 2009 10:01:00 EST. Rumormill: MINI GTI-fighter based on Crossover?

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/mini/" rel="tag">MINI</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/rendered-speculation/" rel="tag">Rendered Speculation</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/rumormill/" rel="tag">Rumormill</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029056/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/23_mini_crossover_high-580op.jpg" alt="" /></a><br />
<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>MINI Crossover Concept - Click above for a high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />With the release of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/Clubman/">Clubman</a>, bigger MINIs have arrived and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/MINICrossoverconcept/">MINI Crossover concept</a> signals more are on the way. Lest you think that BMW's little guys have gone truckin' crazy, there's supposedly a sporty variant of the five-door MINI 'ute in the works. The butch wagon will have 180 hp on tap to fend off Volkswagen GTIs (<em>Autocar</em>'s confusing assessment, not ours), and if that's not enough, a Works version will deliver around 220 hp. You can't have a high-performance version without high-zoot duds, and there's bound to be a distinctive body-kit to go along with the engine's fortitude. Interior upgrades will be aimed at keeping the driver planted and looking fancier, too. Expect the first Crossover to bow sometime next year, with the slightly hotter version coming towards the end of 2010, followed by the JCW variant in 2011.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/">MINI Crossover Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029028/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/01_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029033/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/02_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029035/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/03_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029029/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/04_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/mini-crossover-concept/1029036/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/05_mini_crossover_high_th umbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.ASpx?AR=23989 3">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/06/rumormill-mini-gti-fighter-based-on-crossover/">Rumormill: MINI GTI-fighter based on Crossover?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Wed, 06 May 2009 19:02:00 EST. BMW considering range of two-, three- and four-wheelers for Project i

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/hybrids/" rel="tag">Hybrids/Alternative</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/green/" rel="tag">Green</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/2001572/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/clever_lead.jpg" /></a><br />
<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>BMW Clever concept - Click above for an image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Back in the summer of 2007, BMW and the University of Bath put their combined heads together and designed a vehicle called the Compact Low Emission Vehicle for Urban Transportation, or <a href="http://clever-project.net/gb/gb_design_sketches.htm">C lever</a> for short. Using just three wheels and an engine that was designed to run on compressed natural gas, the Clever concept emitted half the carbon dioxide of normal economy cars.<br /><br />BMW may revisit this design for a future production model under its <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/03/26/bmw-project-i-fleshed-out/">Project i program</a>, which has the goal of finding new ways to create sustainable models for our transportation needs. The Clever would be just one vehicle in a range consisting of multiple two-, three- and four-wheeled vehicles.<br /><br />As much as we'd love to see a completely electric line from the German automaker, we may be waiting a while. <em>iMotor </em>in the U.K. quotes an unnamed spokesperson for BMW as saying:<br /><blockquote>We are committed to producing a super economical or zero emission vehicle or range of vehicles. However, it's going to be at least five years until we have production models on the road. <br /></blockquote>In the meantime, BMW may be forced to fall back on its motorcycle division to locate a suitable set of powerplants for Project i.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/">BMW Clever concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/2001572/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/bmw_clever_5_thumbnail.jp g" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/2001569/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/2006-clever-research-vehicle-ra-studio-1280x960_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/2001570/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/bmw_clever_1_thumbnail.jp g" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/2001571/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/bmw_clever_4_thumbnail.jp g" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/photos/bmw-clever-concept/2001573/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/bmw_clever_sida900p_thumb nail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://imotormag.co.uk/news/243569/bmw_plans_secret_twothree _and_four_wheel_i_cars.ht ml">iMotor</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/08/bmw-considering-range-of-two-three-and-four-wheelers-for-proj/">BMW considering range of two-, three- and four-wheelers for Project i</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 08:59:00 EST.
