<p>With all the tools installed on mobile phones these days (to say nothing of the ones trying to use them in traffic), there's plenty of ways to keep yourself productive while waiting for an appointment, a train, a date... whatever. Unfortunately, none of them enable you to improve your lap time on the N&uuml;rburgring. Fret not, dear gearhead, for Hands-On Mobile is coming to the rescue. The mobile software company has partnered with both BMW AG and N&uuml;rburgring GmbH to develop BMW Racing, a new video game for cell phones.</p>
<p>The game will allow mobile gamers to drive any of six different cars - including the M3, M5, M6 and BMW Sauber F1.08, all fully licensed - around a virtual Nordschleife in two different player modes. The game will be available from participating mobile carriers in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America this summer, while we pray American carriers pick up the game, too.</p>
<p><em>Press release after the jump.</em><br /></p>

The Brit pub supposedly has it on good authority that the new hatch design will be similar to the "TwinDoor" feature offered on the Skoda Superb, which allows the driver to raise either the trunk alone or the rear window and trunk simultaneously. If employed on the new 5-series, storage - with the rear seats folded flat - could approach X5 levels. Expect to see the new 5er launched in 2010.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/222096/5series_ready_to_hatch.ht ml">AutoExpress</a>]<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href=http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/222096/5series_ready_to_hatch.ht ml>Read</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/21/bmw-5-series-hatch-cometh/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/forward/1202193/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/21/bmw-5-series-hatch-cometh/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p><hr />

Its starts off rather plainly, with a rundown of the aftermarket components with which the seller has graced. <br /><br />And then the listing takes a left turn and heads straight for Mars when the seller writes "This car has gotten me laid so much it is ridiculous." After that, you get a rundown of his success with women, copious use of the word "pimp" as both noun and adjective, his workout routine and testosterone regimen, his success with women, tidbits on his "killer" anatomy, instructions on how to become "a Jedi pimp," and more of his success with women. And in case you didn't realize it, he states explicitly: "I'm a winner." A few subtle clues dropped here and there in the description reveal that the owner is parodying Brucie from Grand Theft Auto IV, but you wouldn't know it if you've never played the game. <br /><br />We at Autoblog have a few questions: Who is this ladies' man they call John Connor? With the miraculous powers of this car, why isn't it at auction with Bonham's or RM? And what do they put in the water in Peoria, AZ? In the mean time, we're going to add "jedi pimp" to BMW's brandtag to save you the trouble. <em>Thanks for the tip, Kirk!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=24408 9879&dealer_id=62558733&c ar_year=2002&num_records= 25&model=M3&systime=&make 2=&start_year=2001&engine =&keywordsrep=&keywordsre p=&keywordsfyc=&ke">AutoT rader</a>]<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href=http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=24408 9879&dealer_id=62558733&c ar_year=2002&num_records= 25&model=M3&systime=&make 2=&start_year=2001&engine =&keywordsrep=&keywordsre p=&keywordsfyc=&ke>Read</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/21/we-say-bmw-you-say-part-2/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/forward/1201564/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/21/we-say-bmw-you-say-part-2/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p><hr />

Spied: BMW M3 Sedan facelift... already?

But this is one bit of ground we didn't anticipate the V8 super-sedan would cover quite so quickly: Barely on the market already, the M3 Sedan is getting a facelift.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The revisions, of course, will be minor, but spy shots like the one above suggest that, in addition to the new tail lights being fitted to the regular four-door 3-Series, the M3 Sedan is expected to get some new LEDs up front. Other minor changes will be made to the rear, including a modified rear bumper and diffuser, along with a few updates to the interior. We won't be complaining, just as long as it's as fast as the existing model.</p>

Audi and BMW to utilize 8-speed gearboxes to take on Lexus

<p>As <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/14/next-gen-bmw-7-series-to-get-8-speed-automatic/">we reported last month</a>, it appears BMW and Audi, following the lead of Lexus, will begin to offer eight-speed automatic transmissions in their flagship models. Sources are now saying the transmission will be supplied by ZF Friedrichshafen, a familiar German supplier to both marques. Although we don't know all of the specifics, Audi is expected to debut the new slushbox in the range-topping <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/07/2008-audi-a8-gets-subtle-tweaks-new-features/">A8 sedan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/04/2007-audi-q7-4-2-in-the-autoblog-garage/">Q7 SUV</a>, and their future <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/08/going-odd-audi-a7-renderings/">A7 premium model</a>. BMW will likely debut the new gearbox in their premium <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/15/bmw-expands-7-series-with-exclusive-editions/">7-Series sedan</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/11/first-drive-2009-bmw-x6-xdrive35i-and-xdrive50i/">X6 Sport Activity Vehicle</a>, according to company sources.</p>
<p>The current Audi A8 and BMW 7-Series both use six-speed automatics. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class utilizes a seven-speed automatic of their own design, while Lexus debuted their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/08/lexus-ls-460-world-introduction-part-i/">eight-speed transmission in the LS 460</a>. Increasing the number of forward gears offers advantages in smoothness, acceleration, and improves fuel efficiency. Lower fuel consumption equates to reduced emissions, helping the powerful models meet increasingly stringent air quality standards in Europe and the United States. </p>

Then again, it didn't take much effort to port over the work AC did for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/29/bmw-135i-gets-schnitzered-360-hp-acs1/">standard 1-series coupe</a> to its softer, drop-top sibling.<br /><br />The ACS1 Cabrio package includes all the Schitzerfied exterior elements (new front bumper, rear bumper with diffuser and side skirts) and interior bits (silver carbon fiber trim, aluminum pedal and shifter, etc.) you'd expect. More importantly, AC is offering tuning packages for every model in the 1-series lineup, including the 135i, 120d and 123d. The two diesel mills get a bump in power to 200 hp and 240 hp respectively, with the 135i outputting 360 hp through the use of a revised exhaust and some ECU tweaks. Naturally, AC is offering up a plethora of wheel options, sized from 17- to 19-inches.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ac-schnitzer-acs1-bmw-1-series-cabrio/">AC Schnitzer ACS1 BMW 1-series cabrio</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ac-schnitzer-acs1-bmw-1-series-cabrio/793606/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/01_acs1_cabrio_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ac-schnitzer-acs1-bmw-1-series-cabrio/793614/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/02_acs1_cabrio_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ac-schnitzer-acs1-bmw-1-series-cabrio/793611/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/03_acs1_cabrio_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ac-schnitzer-acs1-bmw-1-series-cabrio/793612/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/04_acs1_cabrio_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ac-schnitzer-acs1-bmw-1-series-cabrio/793609/"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/05_acs1_cabrio_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: AC Schnitzer]<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/ac-schnitzer-does-the-1-series-cabrio/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/forward/1189077/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/ac-schnitzer-does-the-1-series-cabrio/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p><hr />

2011 twin-turbo'd BMW M5 to produce 550 hp

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sedans/" rel="tag">Sedans/Saloons</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/BMW-5-Series/232600/#"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/7588123515_250-op.jpg" /></a>It's no surprise that BMW plans to attempt to bring its uber-saloon up to AMG-levels of power when the new M5 debuts in 2011. That means that output needs to surpass the current model's paltry 501 hp, so BMW will bore out the current V10 to 5.5-liters, slap on a couple of turbos and use direct-injection to bringing power levels up to 550 hp, or more. Grunt will be shoveled to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or the new seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch 'box.<br /><br />But it's not all about pavement-pummeling power. The use of the twin-turbochargers and DI is as much an attempt to reduce emissions as it is to boost output, and BMW is intent on making the next 5-series, due out in 2010, one of its most fuel-efficient vehicles. That means that start-stop technology will be used on the engine, along with its Efficient Dynamics system that uses regenerative braking to reduce load on the alternator, improving both fuel economy and engine output.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/BMW-5-Series/232600/#">Autocar</a>]<p style="clear: both; padding: 8px 0 0 0; height: 2px; font-size: 1px; border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0;">&nbsp;</p><p><a href=http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/BMW-5-Series/232600/#>Read</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/2011-twin-turbod-bmw-m5-to-produce-550-hp/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/forward/1189073/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email">Email this</a> | <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/07/2011-twin-turbod-bmw-m5-to-produce-550-hp/#comments" title="View reader comments on this entry">Comments</a></p><hr />
