<div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><sma ll>2011 Honda CR-Z - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong></div> <br /> For the past 31 years, Japan has selected a Car of the Year award recipient. Over 60 jurors, composed mainly of Japanese journalists, vote on a vehicle worthy of the Car of the Year title, and the auto that receives the most nods drives away with the crown. Last year, that honor went to the redesigned <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/prius">Toyota Prius</a> hybrid, which narrowly edged out the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/insight">Honda Insight</a>. This year, however, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/honda">Honda</a> took top honors with its all-new <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/cr-z">2011 CR-Z</a>. <br /> <br /> Car of the Year jurors praised the CR-Z because of its ability to balance driving pleasure and fuel economy. Jurors also noted that Honda managed to wrap all that high-tech gadgetry inside a unique body design. Upon receiving the award, Honda's president and CEO, Takanobu Ito, stated: <blockquote> <div><em>We are very proud that the CR-Z has been selected from the strong contenders of new models as the Car of the Year Japan 2010-2011. This award shows that the public has accepted Honda's aspiration to supply exceptional environmental performance in a fun-to-drive hybrid car at an affordable price, as well as Honda's desire to spread the joy of owning and driving a car. We also believe that this award for the CR-Z reflects the true value of the combined efforts of our business partners and the many others who supported CR-Z development and production. Going forward, Honda intends to bring more joy to an even larger number of customers.</em></div> </blockquote>Here in North America, the Honda CR-Z didn't make the cut for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/24/north-american-car-truck-of-the-year-shortlists-led-by-ford-gm/">NACTOY short list</a>, but we commend the automaker on its ability to make a huge splash in its home market.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-cr-z-review">2011 Honda CR-Z: Review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-cr-z-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/08/hondacrz2011---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-cr-z-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/08/hondacrz2011---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-cr-z-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/08/hondacrz2011---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-cr-z-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/08/hondacrz2011---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2011-honda-cr-z-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/08/hondacrz2011---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <strong><em><font size="1">Photos copyright (C)2010 </font></em></strong><strong><em><font size="1">Steven J. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/nissan/">Nissan</a> has pulled the wraps off its updated Serena minivan, a feature-packed people mover that's only sold in the Japanese market. For the past three years (2007 to 2009), the Serena has been the top-selling minivan in Japan. Now it appears to have gotten even better.<br /> <br /> The all-new Serena is roomier, has updated user-friendly features and a newly-developed MR20DD engine. The MR20DD boasts direct-injection, twin valve timing control (VTC) and Nissan's new Idling Stop control. Paired with Nissan's Xtronic CVT, the Serena achieves a 25 percent improvement in fuel economy over the outgoing model. Also, compared to the 2005 Serena, the new van produces 75% fewer exhaust emissions. <br /> <br /> Full specs on the new Nissan Serena are available in the press release <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/12/nissan-unveils-new-serena-minivan-for-jdm/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-serena-0/">2011 Nissan Serena</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-serena-0/#3566639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/nissan-serena000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Nissan Serena" title="Nissan Serena" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-serena-0/#3566640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/nissan-serena001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Nissan Serena" title="Nissan Serena" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-serena-0/#3566641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/nissan-serena002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Nissan Serena" title="Nissan Serena" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-serena-0/#3566643"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/nissan-serena003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Nissan Serena" title="Nissan Serena" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/nissan-serena-0/#3566645"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/nissan-serena004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Nissan Serena" title="Nissan Serena" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Nissan]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/13/nissan-unveils-new-serena-minivan-for-jdm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Nissan Serena minivan unveiled in Japan</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/13/nissan-unveils-new-serena-minivan-for-jdm/">New Nissan Serena minivan unveiled in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sat, 13 Nov 2010 09:35:00 EST. Report: Honda Civic sales ending in Japan
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sedans/" rel="tag">Sedan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/japan/" rel="tag">Japan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/honda/" rel="tag">Honda</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/"><img hspace="0" border="0" vspace="4" alt="2010 Honda Civic JDM" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/civicjdm630.jpg" /></a>
<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>2010 Honda Civic (JDM) - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> According to a report from Japan's <a href="http://e.nikkei.com/e/fr/tnks/Nni20101115D15JFN03.htm"> Nikkei.com</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/honda">Honda</a> will stop selling the <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/civic">Civic</a> sedan in its home market as soon as existing inventories run out. As customers shift their focus towards MPVs and more compact vehicles, the popularity of the Civic has dwindled substantially in Japan - only 452 of the trusty Honda sedans were sold in the automaker's domestic market during the month of October.<br /> <br /> Honda is still committed to offering the Civic sedan in other markets, such as the United States and Europe, where sales numbers are substantially more robust. In fact, new versions of both the U.S.- and Euro-spec Civics are set to bow sometime next year. Honda will continue to manufacturer Civic sedas at its Suzuka plant for export purposes. It's unclear whether Honda will continue to import the European-built Civic Type R Euro hatchback into Japan. <em>Thanks for the tip, Jim!</em><br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/">2010 Honda Civic (JDM)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/#3573019"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/uhm2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" title="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/#3573017"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/uhm1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" title="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/#3573021"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/uhm3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" title="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/#3573022"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/uhm5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" title="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-honda-civic-jdm/#3573023"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/uhm6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" title="2010 Honda Civic (JDM)" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://e.nikkei.com/e/fr/tnks/Nni20101115D15JFN03.htm"> Nikkei.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/15/report-honda-civic-sales-ending-in-japan/">Report: Honda Civic sales ending in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 15:31:00 EST. </a> <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>Ferrari California Limited Edition by Cornes & Co. - Click above for image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> If you live in Japan and have the means, there are any number of enticing automobiles you can get domestically that aren't available elsewhere. Most of them are from Japanese automakers, though. But last week, we reported on the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/10/bmw-releases-limited-z4-silver-top-edition-for-japan/">BMW Z4 Silver Top edition</a>, and now <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ferrari">Ferrari</a> has joined the race with an exclusive offering of its own.<br /> <br /> This <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/california">Ferrari California</a> Limited Edition is being offered exclusively by Cornes & Co, Ferrari's main importer in Japan for the past 30 years. Their latest limited edition starts with Maranello's first front-engined V8 convertible and upgrades it with special touches like carbon fiber rocker panels, door handles and fuel cap, and unique diamond-polished forged rims with red hubs and titanium nuts.<br /> <br /> Only ten examples will be offered in three pre-determined color schemes: four in white over black, three in red over black and three in black over cream. This exclusivity will cost you though: ï?¥26,500,000, to be precise - equivalent to about $320,000 U.S., or about ï?¥3 million ($36k) over the standard model.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-california-limited-edition-by-cornes-and-co/">Ferrari California Limited Edition by Cornes & Co.</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-california-limited-edition-by-cornes-and-co/#3571652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/calicc01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-california-limited-edition-by-cornes-and-co/#3571653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/calicc02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/ferrari-california-limited-edition-by-cornes-and-co/#3571655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/calicc03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.cornesmotor.com/news/detail.html?id=92">Cornes </a> via <a href="http://jonsibal.com/blog/2010/11/limited-edition-ferrari-california/">JonSibal</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/16/ferrari-importer-offers-limited-edition-california-exclusive-to/">Ferrari importer offers limited edition California exclusive to Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 16 Nov 2010 18:28:00 EST. Ford reducing Mazda stake to just 3.5%
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/japan/" rel="tag">Japan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/ford/" rel="tag">Ford</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/mazda/" rel="tag">Mazda</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/earnings-financials/" rel="tag">Earnings/Financials</a></p><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/11/ford-mazda-stake-opt.jpg" alt="Ford Mazda stake" /><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford"><br />
Ford</a> has announced that it will reduce its stake in <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mazda">Mazda</a> from 11 percent to 3.5 percent by November 19. The move is part of the Blue Oval's plan to slim its belt line and become a more flexible company in the future. Of course, drumming up the kind of cash comes from selling off 7.5 percent of Mazda likely isn't hurting anyone's feelings in Dearborn, either. The stock will be sold to a number of other Mazda business partners through the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Even so, Ford will remain the biggest Mazda shareholder at 3.5 percent. <br /> <br /> Ford has had a long history of partnership with the Japanese automaker. The two joined forces in 1979 when FoMoCo snapped up a seven-percent stake in Mazda, and by 1997, Ford had a controlling interest in the company with a 33.9-percent stake. But when the 2008 automotive implosion hit, Ford quickly sold a sizable 20-percent share to drum up cash, leaving the American automaker with a still sizable 13.9-percent slice of Mazda. When Mazda recently issued more shares of its company, that stake withered even further to the 11 percent we see today. <br /> <br /> Even so, Ford says that the two companies will continue to share information and technology moving forward. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/18/ford-reducing-mazda-stake-to-just-3-5/#continued">Hit the jump</a> for press releases from both Mazda and Ford.<br /> <br /> [Sources: Mazda, Ford]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/18/ford-reducing-mazda-stake-to-just-3-5/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ford reducing Mazda stake to just 3.5%</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/18/ford-reducing-mazda-stake-to-just-3-5/">Ford reducing Mazda stake to just 3.5%</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 18 Nov 2010 10:01:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>A house built in the area of a parking space - Click above to watch video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/20/video-japanese-man-builds-500-000-house-in-single-parking-spac/#continued">after the jump</a></small></strong></em></div> <br /> As Americans, our concept of a normal-sized home has grown by leaps and bounds over the decades. In her book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Living-Large-Double-Ds---Why-Bigger/dp/0312540256/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF 8&qid=1290093212&sr=1-1"><em>Living Large</em></a>, author Sarah Wexler says that the average home size in the U.S. grew from 983 square feet in 1950 to 2,349 square feet in 2004, and it doesn't look to be shrinking any time soon. It's not like that everywhere. Just look at what ingenious architects in Japan are up to. With both space and funds at a minimum, builders and property owners alike are looking to get the most out of every square foot, even going so far as to build a two-person home on the same footprint as an average-sized parking space. <br /> <br /> To make it happen, designers have employed a number of space-saving tricks, including a triangular spiral staircase that decreases the minimum radius needed for going up and appliances that are stashed under counters and in unique cubbies. Doesn't sound like a bad way to go, if you ask us. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/20/video-japanese-man-builds-500-000-house-in-single-parking-spac/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to see a video of the house for yourself.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/11/12/japan.ultra.tiny.home/index.html?hpt=C2">CNN</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/20/video-japanese-man-builds-500-000-house-in-single-parking-spac/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Japanese man builds $500,000 house in single parking space</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/20/video-japanese-man-builds-500-000-house-in-single-parking-spac/">Video: Japanese man builds $500,000 house in single parking space</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sat, 20 Nov 2010 17:25:00 EST. Report: Mitsubishi plug-in hybrid coming in 2013

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>Mitsubish PX-MiEV plug-in hybrid concept - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> <em>Autoweek</em> reports that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mitsubishi">Mitsubishi</a> will wade into plug-in electric waters in 2013. The automaker's head of electric vehicles, Yoshikazu Nakamura, said the vehicle will be an SUV similar to the 2009 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/px-miev">Px-MiEV Concept</a> and that the production version is already nearing the final stages of development. The concept got its pep from a tiny 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine working in coordination with two electric motors and a battery pack. Mitsubishi pegged the Px-MiEV as being able to travel for up to 30 miles one pure electric go-go, so there must be some pretty hefty battery technology onboard as well.<br /> <br /> Whether or not the production SUV will use a similar drivetrain remains to be seen. We can say with some certainty that Mitsubishi is likely to simplify the vehicle's name considerably. The automarker has already scrapped the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/i-miev">i-MiEV</a> moniker for the somewhat more palatable name of "i powered by MiEV" in the States. We can't wait to explain that one to the fine people of the DMV. <br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-mitsubishi-concept-px-miev/">Tokyo 2009: Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-mitsubishi-concept-px-miev/#2380155"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/mitsu-px-concept-tokyo-live__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-mitsubishi-concept-px-miev/#2380150"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/mitsu-px-concept-tokyo-live_-(1)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-mitsubishi-concept-px-miev/#2380157"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/mitsu-px-concept-tokyo-live_-(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-mitsubishi-concept-px-miev/#2380163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/mitsu-px-concept-tokyo-live_-(3)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/tokyo-2009-mitsubishi-concept-px-miev/#2380160"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/mitsu-px-concept-tokyo-live_-(4)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Phot os by Jonathan Ramsey / Copyright (C)2009 AOL</small></strong></em><br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.autoweek.com/article/20101122/CARNEWS/101129978">Autoweek</a>]<br /> <p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/22/report-mitsubishi-plug-in-hybrid-coming-in-2013/">Report: Mitsubishi plug-in hybrid coming in 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 14:32:00 EST.
