<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>2010 Japanese Grand Prix - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> The Japanese Grand Prix has long held a special place in the Formula One World Championship. Traditionally one of, if not the very last race of the season, Japan has crowned many a champion: in fact the title has been decided there 12 out of the 24 times the Pacific island nation has hosted a grand prix. And of the drivers who've won there the past ten years running, all but Kimi Raikkonen lined up there again this weekend, Suzuka taking back the hosting duties from Fuji once more.<br /> <br /> Would this year's race see a new winner atop the podium? Or would Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher or even Rubens Barrichello add the trophy alongside their previous wins in the Land of the Rising Sun? Follow the jump to find out.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-japanese-grand-prix/">2010 Japanese Grand Prix</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-japanese-grand-prix/#3452924"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/hkg4125231_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-japanese-grand-prix/#3452947"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/japanf1gpautoracingfc020b 19e81b43e4a272705df0c6072 3.019dcf2e7498473e925e264 a0c721051_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-japanese-grand-prix/#3452938"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/japanf1gpautoracing.f28b2 923c4ca435e83c386860d27b4 b6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-japanese-grand-prix/#3452941"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/gyi0061994828_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-japanese-grand-prix/#3452937"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/japanf1gpautoracing.a55dd 7a1d8de4d308243c44d9d2269 99_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/10/2010-japanese-grand-prix-the-sun-finally-shines-in-the-land-of/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2010 Japanese Grand Prix: The sun finally shines in the Land of the Rising Sun [Spoilers]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/10/2010-japanese-grand-prix-the-sun-finally-shines-in-the-land-of/">2010 Japanese Grand Prix: The sun finally shines in the Land of the Rising Sun [Spoilers]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sun, 10 Oct 2010 07:47:00 EST. DTM coming to America in 2013 with NASCAR's help?
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/motorsports/" rel="tag">Motorsports</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/euro/" rel="tag">Europe</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/japan/" rel="tag">Japan</a></p><a href="http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/87473"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/dtmnascargt500.jpg" /></a><br />
<br /> NASCAR's making moves, one of which is helping Germany's DTM series make the giant move to the U.S. The German touring car promoter ITM is in talks to run a 12-race calendar in the U.S. in 2013, with six races alongside Grand-Am events and another six alongside NASCAR events. The next generation of DTM cars will bow a year earlier, and they would run by themselves as opposed to joining a multi-regulation series in the U.S. The plan will certainly be welcomed by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw">BMW</a>, who will <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/15/bmw-returning-to-dtm-in-2012/">return to DTM</a> in 2012 after an 18-year absence.<br /> <br /> DTM is also spreading its wings the other way, having come close to getting Japan's GT500 class in SuperGT to run according to DTM technical regulations. That would put contenders like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/19/video-four-minutes-of-shear-supergt-bliss/">Honda HSV-10</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/08/the-time-has-come-unofficial-lexus-lfa-supergt-contender-render/">a potential LFA racer</a>, as well as the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ferrari">Ferrari</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz">Mercedes</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/lamborghini">Lamborghini</a> teams already there, against the best of the rest from Germany. And that would be a series we'd really need to have... <em>Hat tip to Drew</em><br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/87473">Autosport</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/18/dtm-coming-to-america-in-2013-with-nascars-help/">DTM coming to America in 2013 with NASCAR's help?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 08:01:00 EST. Report: Toyota president assuages fears that he's closing all Japanese factories

<br /> <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/toyota">Toyota</a> President Akio Toyoda caused something of an uproar in the automaker's home market of Japan when he suggested that "<span id="lblArticleBodyText">l ogically, it doesn't make sense to manufacture in Japan." Why? The surging value of the Yen, currently at a 15-year high, compared to the U.S. Dollar.<br /> <br /> Considering that the vast majority of vehicles Toyota builds in Japan are intended for export and that the American market is still the automaker's most important, the value of the Yen is a major stumbling block standing in the way of profits. Still, Toyoda has confirmed that his eponymous company has no intention of entirely halting production in Japan.<br /> <br /> What that assurance doesn't mean, however, is that Toyota won't continue to shift production overseas in an effort to retain profitability. While none of the Japanese plants will be completely closed, they may see a good portion of their output transferred to facilities in other markets... notably North America.<br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.just-auto.com/news/president-says-toyota-will-not-close-home-factories_id106436.aspx"> Just-Auto</a>]<br /> </span><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/19/report-toyota-president-assuages-fears-that-hes-closing-all-ja/">Report: Toyota president assuages fears that he's closing all Japanese factories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 18:01:00 EST. Study: The Toyota Prius has a dirty side after all -?*manufacturing

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><sma ll>2010 Toyota Prius - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div> <br /> There are plenty of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/15/working-for-toyota-makes-you-healthier/">revelations</a> in the annual sustainability report recently released by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota">Toyota</a>. By and large, the company is as ecologically-minded as a multi-national corporation can be, but as we've touched on before, not everything is as squeaky clean as it could be. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/prius">Toyota Prius</a> has earned itself as one of the greenest vehicles on the road - a perception that the company's report confirmed by detailing the fact that over its lifetime, the Prius is likely to emit much less carbon dioxide than other comparable vehicles. <br /> <br /> Unfortunately, that truth is offset a bit by the fact that the vehicle performs marginally worse than average when it comes to the emissions generated to build hybrid. Specifically, Toyota cranks out extra nonmethane hydrocarbons and particulate matter, thanks specifically to the manufacturing of the car's electric motor and battery pack. Those two pieces require larger amounts of energy and materials, snagging the Prius lower than average ratings across all five manufacturing emissions categories.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review">Review: 2010 Toyota Prius</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev000_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev002_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev001_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev003_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-toyota-prius-review/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/05/prius2010_rev004_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em><strong><small>Phot os by Sam Abuelsamid / Copyright (C)2009 AOL</small></strong></em><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20101018/OEM01/310189979">Automotive News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/19/study-the-toyota-prius-has-a-dirty-side-after-all-manufacturi/">Study: The Toyota Prius has a dirty side after all -?*manufacturing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 19:27:00 EST. Japanese automakers revise earnings estimates on strength of Yen
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/japan/" rel="tag">Japan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/nissan/" rel="tag">Nissan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/toyota/" rel="tag">Toyota</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/earnings-financials/" rel="tag">Earnings/Financials</a></p><a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-10-26/toyota-may-revise-currency-assumption-for-earnings-toyoda-says.html/"><img hspace="0" border="0" vspace="4" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/toyota-currency.jpg" /></a><br />
<br /> Akio Toyoda, president of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a>, has stated that the Japanese automaker is planning to revise its earnings forecast due to the fact that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/26/yen-vs-dollar-euro-both-us-and-european-automakers-feeling-the/">Yen has reached a 15-year high</a>. The full-year profit forecast was based on a rate of 90 Yen to the US Dollar. It will be reduced to around 80 Yen to USD. The Yen has risen 15 percent against the USD and 13 percent against the Euro, which is not good for a company that has to repatriate earnings from its overseas sales.<br /> <br /> Earlier this year, the rising Yen created concerns that Akio Toyoda would be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/19/report-toyota-president-assuages-fears-that-hes-closing-all-ja/">forced to shutter some assembly plants</a>. Toyoda assured the public that plants would not be closing, however more vehicle assembly <em>is</em> being shipped to overseas factories. <br /> <br /> Toyota is not alone in making this move. <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/nissan">Nissan</a> has stated that it is looking at doing a revision of earnings as well as finding more locally sourced parts to aid overseas production. <br /> <br /> [Source: <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-10-26/toyota-may-revise-currency-assumption-for-earnings-toyoda-says.html/">Bloomberg</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/28/japanese-automakers-revise-earnings-estimates-on-str/">Japanese automakers revise earnings estimates on strength of Yen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 28 Oct 2010 07:59:00 EST. To mark the occasion, Honda has rolled out a new website dedicated to the life and times of its humanoid robot. There are baby pictures, adorable stories and even a video or two to sink your teeth into. You know, if you're into that sort of thing. Of course, ASIMO itself is the result of over a quarter of a century of work on humanoid robot technology that Honda hopes will one day aid in human mobility. Additionally, the Japanese company wants ASIMO to evolve into a robot that can help people in their everyday lives, potentially taking over household chores.<br /> <br /> For now, though, ASIMO has been busy meeting heads of state and conducting orchestras. Important work, sure, but meanwhile, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/GM">General Motors</a>' one-year old <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/14/nasa-to-send-r2-droid-robot-co-developed-with-g/">R2 Robot</a> is headed to outer space to lend a hand or two at the International Space station.<br /> <br /> Damn kids.<br /> <br /> If you want to check out the Honda ASIMO festivities, head over to the company's robot-themed site. There's even an iPhone app available for download. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/29/hondas-asimo-celebrates-10-years-w-video/#continued">Hit the jump</a> for the press release.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-history-of-humanoid-robotics/">Honda History of Humanoid Robotics</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-history-of-humanoid-robotics/#3520036"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/01-asimo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-history-of-humanoid-robotics/#3520037"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/02-asimo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-history-of-humanoid-robotics/#3520039"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/03-asimo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-history-of-humanoid-robotics/#3520040"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/04-asimo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-history-of-humanoid-robotics/#3520041"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2010/10/05-asimo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Honda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/29/hondas-asimo-celebrates-10-years-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Honda's ASIMO celebrates 10 years [w/video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/29/hondas-asimo-celebrates-10-years-w-video/">Honda's ASIMO celebrates 10 years [w/video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 29 Oct 2010 13:01:00 EST. Released as a limited-edition on November 1st, the Japan Post Network Chugoke Regional Office has created a 12-stamp set officially titled History of Mazda Motor Corporation Hiroshima.<br />
<br /> The stamp set is limited to just 3,000 units and each one comes with a 1:64 scale model of a white <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/30/celebrate-40-years-of-rotary-power-with-mazda/">Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S</a>. Images on the stamps range from the past icons such as the 1950 Mazda-Go three-wheeled truck and aforementioned Cosmo to modern ones like the <a href="http://autoblog.com/model/mx-5">MX-5</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/mazda5">Mazda5</a>. It's not just cars though, as one of the stamps features an image of Mazda's infamous <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/rotary">rotary</a> engine.<br /> <br /> Unfortunately, those of us outside of Japan will not be able to purchase this stamp collection, as Mazda is only offering it in its home market. The price is 2,800 Yen per set, which is about $35 USD based on current exchange rates. The stamps are shown in the image to the right, which you can expand by clicking on it, and Mazda's official press release is available <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/05/limited-edition-japanese-postage-stamp-set-honors-iconic-mazda-v/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br /> <br /> [Source: Mazda]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/05/limited-edition-japanese-postage-stamp-set-honors-iconic-mazda-v/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Limited-edition Japanese postage stamp set honors iconic Mazda vehicles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/05/limited-edition-japanese-postage-stamp-set-honors-iconic-mazda-v/">Limited-edition Japanese postage stamp set honors iconic Mazda vehicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 05 Nov 2010 13:33:00 EST.
