BMW Z4 priced from $46,575
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/carbuying/" rel="tag">Car Buying</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/convertibles/" rel="tag">Convertibles</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><img hspace="4" border="1" vspace="4" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/2010_z4_hi_33_580.jpg" /><br /><br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/13/officially-official-2010-bmw-z4/">BMW Z4</a> is all new for 2010, and the updated roadster will be ready for production later this spring. BMW gave the Z4 sleeker sheet metal, a folding hard top, and upgraded powertrains, but the biggest change could be to its price tag. Buyers looking for a new Z4 can expect to plunk down $46,575. That's a big jump from the base $36,700 of the 2008 Z4, which packed less power and less road presence. The 46 large is also exactly the same price as the Z4's nemesis; the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/cars-Porsche-Boxster-2009/photos?tab=overview">Pors che Boxster</a>. The 2010 model will net you a 258-horsepower inline six capable of hitting 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The base Bimmer will also come standard with leatherette seating surfaces (upgrading to Kansas leather tacks on another $1,250).<br /><br />The 306-horsepower, twin-turbo Z4 sDrive35i will cost a whole lot more, with a starting price of $52,475, including destination and handling. The 2008 Z4 M was a bit cheaper at $50,400 and carried more power, but the 2010 car's higher torque numbers make for an equally-quick droptop, as evidenced by its 5.1 second 0-60 time with the dual-clutch gear box.<br /><br />Options abound for the Z4, and they're both expensive and confusing. Bundles include a Premium package at $3,900, or $2,800 when also ordering the $2,300 Sport package, which is $1,900 when also going premium. You can also get a performance 19-inch tire and wheel package for $1,200, but only if you purchase the sDrive35i <em>and</em> the Sport package. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox can be had on the 35i for $1,525. For complete pricing options, check out BMW's <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/docs/2009-BMW-Z4-Roadster-(E89)-price-sheet.pdf">Z4 pricing sheet</a>.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-z4-1/">2010 BMW Z4</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-z4-1/1222098/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2010_z4_hi_09_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-z4-1/1222120/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2010_z4_hi_10_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-z4-1/1222143/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2010_z4_hi_11_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-z4-1/1222109/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2010_z4_hi_14_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-bmw-z4-1/1222104/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/2010_z4_hi_15_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/03/27/2009-bmw-z4-us-pricing-is-available/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/28/bmw-z4-priced-from-46-575/">BMW Z4 priced from $46,575</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Sat, 28 Mar 2009 17:03:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><stron g>Click above for live a high-res gallery from Symbolic Motors Annual Spring Event</strong></em><br /></div> </small> <br />Symbolic Motors just held their Annual Spring Event to showcase all the new models from the high-end manufacturers they represent in their San Diego dealerships. MINI pondering BMW-engined diesel models, including JCW?
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/coupes/" rel="tag">Coupes</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/economy/" rel="tag">Economy</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/hatchbacks/" rel="tag">Hatchbacks</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/mini/" rel="tag">MINI</a></p><a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/239091/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/03/mini_bmw_diesels.jpg" /></a><br /><br />Two weeks ago, <em>Auto Express</em> reported that MINI would be creating a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/11/rumormill-mini-cooper-s-jcw-diesel-on-the-way/">John Cooper Works edition diesel</a> with more than 160 horsepower and improved torque. Now, fellow UK publication <em>Autocar</em> looks to have the details, which includes speculation that the extra oomph will come from BMW engines now used in the 1 Series cars - and they might not just be for JCW models.<br /><br />According to the report, the white coats at BMW inserted a detuned 2.0-liter diesel that is longitudinally mounted in the 120d into the transverse engine bay of the MINI. The result was a MINI diesel with 40 hp more than the Cooper D, which currently uses an engine that BMW developed with PSA Peugeot/Citroen. <br /><br /><em>Autocar</em> also reports that the twin turbo lump from the 123d can be fitted to the MINI, which could be used to create a diesel JCW. If they don't detune the engine, that would mean a 7 hp drop versus the gas-engined version, but 105 more lb-ft. of twist and better than 40 mpg when the drivetrain isn't being stomped on. <em>Autocar</em> says that BMW has begun testing the new diesels with an eye on retail sales in 12 months.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/239091/">Autocar</a> | Photo credit: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulmullett/2493959253/">themullett</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/31/mini-pondering-bmw-engined-diesel-models-including-jcw/">MINI pondering BMW-engined diesel models, including JCW?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 13:58:00 EST. Spy Shots: BMW X5 M caught in South Carolina... but will it debut in NY?

<div align="center"><strong><e m><small>BMW X5 M spy shots - Click above for gallery</small></em></strong><br /></div> <br />Two alert readers caught these latest snapshots of BMW's forthcoming X5 M near the company's Spartanburg, South Carolina facility. With that stance, six front intakes, and that enormous rubber, it looks like the perfect vehicle for a group of Bavarian hitmen, albeit in silver. Some cyber sleuthing revealed <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/05/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-get-official-teaser-site-source-code-reveals/">terms like "550 bhp" and "Twin Scroll Twin Turbo"</a> on the <a href="http://www.bmw.com/com/en/general/nextchapter/index.html">X5 M and X6 M microsite</a>, but the countdown is only at 4 days and a bit, so we probably won't see particulars until then.<br /><br />Interestingly, BMW has confirmed that its slant-backed stablemate, the X6 M, will definitely debut at next week's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/New-York-Auto-Show/">New York Auto Show</a>, so we're looking forward to checking it out. Officially, however, there's no confirmation that the X5 M will make it to the show - but we suspect it will make an appearance just the same. BMW names Marc Girard head of interior design
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/trends/" rel="tag">Trends</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/hirings-firings/" rel="tag">Hirings/Firings/Layoffs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.cardesignnews.com/site/home/rss_display/item157729/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/marc-girard.jpg" /></a>The field of car design has been about as stable as an active volcano lately, with several major automakers replacing their design chiefs in quick succession. Over the past couple of weeks, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/27/breaking-volvo-design-chief-steve-mattin-leaves-company/">Volvo's styling guru Steve Mattin quit</a>, and he was replaced by Ford designer <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/peter-horbury-returns-to-head-volvo-design-moray-callum-in-as-f/">Peter Horbury, whose post in turn was taken up by Moray Callum</a>. Before that, Volkswagen designer <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/30/vws-california-studio-head-derek-jenkins-to-move-to-mazda-desig/">Derek Jenkins defected to Mazda</a>, while Mazda's chief designer <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/01/laurens-van-der-acker-steps-down-as-mazda-design-chief-ikuo-mae/">Laurens van der Acker was replaced by Ikuo Maeda.</a> But in advance of all that, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/03/breaking-chris-bangle-quits-bmw-auto-industry/">Chris Bangle</a> sent shockwaves through the industry (in typical Bangle style) by leaving BMW. Adrian van Hooydonk was promoted to take his place, but after Munich's interior designer Michael Ninic died suddenly last year, Hooydonk was stretched a little thin.<br /><br />The latest appointment, however, should help alleviate some of the pressure, as Marc Girard has been named head of BMW's interior design department. The French designer, educated at the Art Center College of Design, has been with the BMW Group for some 15 years now, and has been responsible for the cabins on several Bimmer and MINI models of late. It's a logical move for the Bavarian automaker, and a well-deserved step up for the talented cabinsmith.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.cardesignnews.com/site/home/rss_display/item157729/">Car Design News</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/02/bmw-names-marc-girard-head-of-interior-design/">BMW names Marc Girard head of interior design</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 02 Apr 2009 17:40:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><stron g><small>BMW X6M - Click above for an image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div> <br />The official details on the BMW X6M and X5M aren't due to be released until tomorrow, but Carscoop decided to drop the first batch of photos of the new uber-utes from BMW a day early. Early reports indicate both M-modified sleds will be powered by a tweaked variant of the twin-turbocharged V8 currently fitted to the X6, with output increasing from 400 hp to 550 hp. The suspension, brakes and transmission will all be modified for duty in the Ms, but that's all we have for now. Check back tomorrow for the official details.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6m-leakage/">BMW X6M Leakage</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6m-leakage/1470851/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/01-bmw-x6m-leakage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6m-leakage/1470852/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/02-bmw-x6m-leakage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6m-leakage/1470857/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/03-bmw-x6m-leakage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6m-leakage/1470868/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/04-bmw-x6m-leakage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x6m-leakage/1470870/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/05-bmw-x6m-leakage_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/04/new-bmw-x6m-first-photos-of-m-version.html">Carscoop</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/03/bmw-x6m-leaks-out-ahead-of-new-york-unveiling/">BMW X6M leaks out ahead of New York unveiling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 18:04:00 EST. New York Preview: BMW X6 and X5 get the M treatment
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/new-york-auto-show/" rel="tag">New York Auto Show</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/crossovers-cuvs/" rel="tag">Crossovers/CUVs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/p90045797_image-1280_opt.jpg" alt="" /><br />
<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>BMW X6 M and X5 M - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div> <br />BMW has done the <strike>inexplicable</strike> inevitable, expanding its M treatment from cars to SUVs (or Sports Activity Vehicles in BMW parlance). The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NewYorkAutoShow/">New York Auto Show</a> marks the world debut of the X5 M and X6 M, and in typical M fashion, the high riders get substantially more power than their more pedestrian variants. Both vehicles get uprated versions of the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that debuted in the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/X6/">X6</a> last year. Power goes from a mere 400 hp up to 555 hp in M form with torque swelling from 450 to 500 lb-ft. While the increase in twist doesn't seem like all that much, BMW is claiming it's produced from 1,500 all the way to 5,650 rpm. <br /><br />The 4.4-liter V8 is direct injected and like other such engines with turbos, torque aplenty is the result. Like the standard version of the V8, the M variant has the intakes on the outside of the cylinder heads with the exhaust and twin turbos planted in the valley between the banks. This new version sports a revised exhaust manifold that combines the flow from both banks into the duo of twin scroll turbochargers.
