Volkswagen is slated to launch the R brand as its own separate performance division. This according to a report from Inside Line, quoting an unnamed VW exec during the launch of
the new Golf R.
The official announcement is expected at the upcoming
Geneva Motor Show in March. After that, it'd be reasonable to expect additional performance models to come out of the new R GmbH. So far we've got the new Golf R (which is expected to arrive in North America early next year), the
Scirocco R (which, to our eternal chagrin, remains grounded overseas), and there are
reports of an upcoming Jetta R (previewed by the
New Compact Coupe concept unveiled in Detroit), to say nothing of appearance-only packages like the
CC R-Line.
Push comes to considerable shove, the reported formation of R GmbH only stands to bring some exciting new offerings to the street.
