Video: BMW releases official M5 flick
BMW just can't seem to help itself when it comes to sharing frosty videos of the next-generation M5 undergoing winter testing. The German automaker has released this second clip to accompany the first, complete with plenty of shots of the muscle-bound sedan getting sideways on the powder. We're a little handicapped by the fact that we don't speak German, but that certainly didn't stop us from enjoying watching the big four door do what it does best on the white stuff.

We still can't help but feel a pang of remorse for the loss of the naturally-aspirated V10 that powers the current M5, but from what we hear, the new twin-turbo V8 will give us plenty to sing about. Unfortunately, rumor has it that buyers won't be able to pick up their next-gen M5 with a manual transmission. Still, we've got our fingers crossed that BMW will still offer a third pedal in the meanest of the fives. After all, if American buyers can take home the new 6 Series with a row-your-own gearbox, a manual transmission option shouldn't be too much of a stretch for the M5. Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself.
BMW announces three two-car teams for 2012 DTM series

Touring car racing fans are eagerly anticipating the return of BMW to the DTM series. The Bavarian automaker last competed in DTM (or its progenitors, anyway) a whopping 18 years ago, but late last year announced it would return to the German touring car series in 2012. Now it has revealed the means to that end.

Rather than field its own entries, BMW will be supplying the vehicles and factory support for three independent teams: BMW Team RBM, BMW Team Schnitzer and Reinhold Motorsport GmbH. Both RBM and Schnitzer have a longstanding relationship with BMW Motorsport, while Reinhold is a completely new outfit. Each of the teams will be fielding two of the new M3 DTMs that are currently under development.

The move to DTM comes on the back of some big shakeups in BMW's racing program. Although it pulled out of Formula One two years ago, and eliminated its works World Touring Car Championship effort at the end of last year, it has recently pitched the Mini division into the WRC with Prodrive and launched the DTM program to pick up where it left off in the WTCC. Follow the jump for the official announcement, along with three additional press releases - one from each of BMW's partner teams - for the true tin-top fanatics among us.

The 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe is serving duty as one of the safety cars for the 2011 MotoGP Championship, which kicks off this weekend at the Grand Prix of Qatar. The 1M Coupe that will be handling safety car duties has been smartened up a little from stock, starting with an Akrapovic sport exhaust.

BMW also added a big rear wing, a chin spoiler and BMW Motorsport's fabled tri-color paint scheme. To cap the look off, BMW has finished the wheels and exhaust tips in black. No word yet on whether the accessories on the MotoGP pace car will be made available to the public, or if this car is a one-shot deal. Check out more pics of the safety car by visiting our friends at 1Addicts (link below).
Video: BMW creates radio controlled tribute to culture

BMW Culture remote control book - Click above to watch the video after the break

BMW has joined forces with graphic-designer Stephan Sagmeister to celebrate the company's 40-year commitment to culture the world over. The German automaker is currently sponsoring over 100 artistic endeavors around the globe, and Sagmeister cooked up a pretty clever way to add to the stack. BMW documented the company's history as a patron in a new tome by the decidedly unpretentious title CULTURE. But this isn't just any old book. Aside from being personally signed by Sagmeister himself, the books all feature an individual cover design that, when arranged, would create a seven-by-seven graphic image of the BMW headquarters in Munich.

But wait, there's more.

As it turns out, each book also comes with its own remote-control running gear. If you get bored reading about the hordes of musicians, artists and designers that BMW has sponsored over the years, you can simply flop the book on the floor and commence to driving it about. Sounds like a winner to us. Hit the jump for the full press blast as well as a video of Sagmeister signing the volumes.
Video: Drifting BMW i3 proves rear-wheel drive cars have more fun

2013 BMW i3 - Click above to watch the video after the jump

Footage from cold-weather testing of the BMW i3 in Sweden has surfaced, showcasing the all-electric city car's rear-wheel-drive platform and penchant for getting sideways. These are still early tests, as the full production i3 isn't expected to be ready until 2013.

Still, with 150 horsepower on tap from a rear-mounted electric lump, the little BMW could well be a barrel of laughs, as well as an environmentally-responsible mode of transportation. Of course, we wouldn't expect much range with these kinds of antics...

The BMW i3 sports an aluminum body around a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic passenger compartment, and will be considered a premium micro car when it hits showrooms. How premium? Expect the price tag to creep past $40,000. See how much fun electric drifting can be in the video after the break.
